JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Jaguars have re-signed fifth-year veteran TE James O’Shaughnessy, the club announced today.
“I knew once I came to Duval a couple years ago that this is the place I wanted to be,” O’Shaughnessy said. “From the team environment, to the people I work with every day, they just made it fun for me to come to work. Going through this whole process and seeing where I could possibly go, at end of the day if I had the opportunity to play with the Jags again I wanted to. I am fortunate that they have given me this opportunity. I want to thank everyone that is a part of this organization from Coach Coughlin, Coach Marrone, Mr. Khan, Dave Caldwell and all of my other coaches. I am very happy to be back in Duval.”
O’Shaughnessy, 6-4, 245, has appeared in 53 career games with 16 starts since entering the league as a fifth-round draft pick by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2015. Following a two-year stint with the Chiefs, he was traded to the New England Patriots during the 2017 NFL Draft. O’Shaughnessy was waived by New England during final roster reductions on Sept. 2, 2017 and was claimed off waivers by Jacksonville. He has spent the last two seasons on Jacksonville’s active roster, appearing in 30 games with 10 starts, and catching 38 passes for 363 yards (9.6 rec. avg.) and one TD. For his career, he has caught 46 passes for 449 yards (9.8 rec. avg.) and one TD.
A native of Naperville, Ill., O’Shaughnessy attended Illinois State and appeared in 49 games during his collegiate career (2010-14). He totaled 67 catches for 1,170 yards and 14 TDs and was honored as a second-team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference selection following his senior season. O’Shaughnessy is pronounced O-SEAN-uh-see.
