JAGUARS RE-SIGN KICKER JOSH LAMBO
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Jaguars have re-signed K Josh Lambo to a contract extension, the club announced today. Lambo was set to become an unrestricted free agent on March 13 at 4 p.m. ET.
Lambo, 28, has appeared in 55 career games, including 23 games for the Jaguars, since being signed as an undrafted rookie by the then-San Diego Chargers on May 12, 2015. Following a 32-game stint with the Chargers, Lambo signed with Jacksonville on Oct. 17, 2017. Lambo set Jacksonville’s franchise record for consecutive made field goals, converting 24 straight from Nov. 19, 2017 to Nov. 11, 2018. Since joining the Jaguars, Lambo has made 38 of 41 field goals, and his 92.7 pct. field goal conversion rate is the highest in franchise history among players with at least 10 field goal attempts. In 2018, Lambo made 19 of 21 field goals (90.5 pct.), becoming the first player in franchise history to post back-to-back seasons with a field goal rate of at least 90.0 pct. In 2017, Lambo made 19 of 20 field goals (95.0 pct.), as well as all four field goal attempts during the team’s postseason run. On Oct. 28, 2018, playing at London’s historic Wembley Stadium, Lambo converted four field goals – 24 yards, 33, 51, and a career-long 57 yards – marking the first time in his career he made multiple field goals of 50-plus yards. His 57-yard field goal was the third-longest in franchise history.
For his career, Lambo has made 90 of 105 field goals (85.7 pct.) and 111 of 122 PATs (91.0 pct.). Lambo, a native of Lansing, Mich., played professional soccer for Major League Soccer’s (MLS) FC Dallas, where he was the eighth overall pick in the 2008 MLS Draft. Lambo, who was one of the United States’ top young goalkeeping prospects, played for the U.S. under-17 National Team and was a trialist with the English Premier League’s Everton FC, where he trained alongside long-time U.S. Soccer star Tim Howard. Lambo enrolled at Texas A&M in 2012 and became the most accurate kicker in Aggies football history, converting 84.0 pct. of his field goal attempts (21 of 25) during a three-year career in College Station, Texas.
Quotes from K Josh Lambo
On signing a contract extension with the Jaguars: “I’m not quite sure it has set in yet. This whole NFL journey has been a little wild and very unexpected. Now that I’ve gotten to the point where I can sign an extension with this club, it’s really special, and it’s a great day for myself and [my wife] Megan and our dogs and our whole family.”
On his health: “Everything has been good so far. Rehab is on track. We are going to be stronger than I have been the past four seasons, and I’m really looking forward to it.”
On bringing his dogs and his wife to the stadium to sign his contract: “It’s kind of a statement for what my life is. Obviously, my wife is here and my dogs because I wanted them here. It is a big day for me, so it’s a big day for them. I think we are all going to go home and get some treats tonight.”
