(On how he’s feeling physically) “Yeah, still a little sore today. I mean, shoot, not much
different than other weeks, but at this point in the year, yeah. Still dealing with a little
soreness, so hopefully we can get that flushed out throughout the week.”
(On if he is expecting to play on Sunday) “That’s the goal. I’m doing everything I can to be
out there. Like in the past, I’ve gotten banged up in the past. So, just try to do everything I
can during the week to prepare myself to play Sunday and just put as much time as
possible into that and getting healthy. So that’s the way my mind is right now.”
(On if the difference between injuring your throwing versus nonthrowing shoulder) “I mean,
everything is different. You have to take all things into consideration. Obviously, different
injuries, if it’s throwing shoulder or not, affect you differently and how much you’re able to
limit things and how much you’re able to do. It really does affect it. So, I mean, just got to
kind of take everything into consideration and really prepare this week to go play and to get
back healthy and all those things.”
(On if he feels regrets not sliding) “I mean, it’s football. You’re playing fast. You’re reacting.
Obviously, you can go back and look at everything that happens and overanalyze it. It’s just
the game. It happens fast and stuff happens. It’s a physical game. So not really, but
obviously you want to avoid all the unnecessary hits when you can.”
(On what he learned last year about the balance between recovery from injury and needing
practice time) “Yeah, I’ve learned a lot through my few years of just dealing with injuries as
the season goes on. One, what’s the best way to do that, how to still prepare and get the
right amount of work in that you need to get. Every injury is different too. So, there’s some
times you can get more work in than other weeks. I think all those things have a factor in it.
But yeah, I’ve been through it, so I think I have some experience. I know what I felt like
helped me in the past. I know what I felt like I maybe lacked or needed more of from past

experience too. So yeah, it’s part of this business, part of this game. Everybody has to find
their own way to work through injuries and to get themselves ready to play on Sunday.”
(On if his game status will be decided on Friday) “I’m not going to put a day on it of when a
decision will be made. Not necessarily a timeline on that. I think just want to be able to feel
comfortable and feel like I can play my best and give everything I need to help our team win.
So, I think that’s what the decision comes down to at the end of the day. So that’s where my
mind is and what I’m thinking about and what’s best for the team. Obviously myself too, but
ultimately for the team and what gives us the best shot to win on Sunday. So, I think all
those things play a factor for sure.”
(On if it’s nice to have QB C.J. Beathard back in the quarterback room) “Yeah, great to have
C.J. back. That’s my buddy, known him for—been here with me for most of my career and
it’s nice to have him back in the building. I know he’s excited and our whole room is great.
Honestly, all the guys, John Rhys [QB John Rhys Plumlee], Mac [QB Mac Jones], we all fit
together pretty well. So, it’s been great and then obviously adding him to that again is a guy
that I know and have experience with and does a good job. I think everybody fits in really
seamlessly.”
(On what challenges Minnesota’s defense presents to quarterbacks) “It’s really good. There
are different game plans for different offenses they play and the way they adjust. It seems
like they can get to so many different things as a defense. They can give you a lot of different
presentations. Their pressure packages are pretty detailed and there’s a lot of it. So just the
ability, I think that they can get to so many different things and you’re not sure what they’re
going to do that game. Obviously, they have things that they’ve done throughout the season
that you can tell they like to do and it’s part of their defense. But beyond that, they have a
lot of wrinkles. They stress the quarterback for sure with different protection things. They
stress the O-line with different looks up front. Then they just play really well together.
Usually, a lot of times when teams do that, there’s some holes in the back end. Of course,
with pressures, there always is, but it seems like they do a really good job of knowing where
the issues are, covering up, getting there, play really good in space. Their back end does a
good job of disguising coverages. There’s a lot of things that they do really well. You can tell
they’re well-coached and they’re all playing together.”
(On what he saw on tape from last Sunday that he’d want to improve on) “Yeah, that’s a
good question. There’s something that I heard a long time ago that I think is true. Really, no
matter the situation, it’s never as bad as you think. It’s never as good as you think when you
go back and watch the tape. There’s been times where I felt like I played great, felt like we

played great as an offense. You go back and watch it and you’re like, ‘We made some plays,
but there’s still some issues.’ Because it’s never perfect. And then there’s times where
you’re feeling real crappy after a game and you go back and watch it. A lot of times it’s really
not as bad as you thought. Obviously, there’s plays out there. I think the biggest frustration
for me is there’s plays out there that I know I can make, especially early in the game, just
putting us in position to get a rhythm, to get going as an offense, to get some first downs,
just to get some momentum that I feel like I left out there. Obviously, just taking care of the
ball. I think there’s different situations that come up and not trying to beat myself up on too
much. Things happen in games and there’s going to be plays that unfold and don’t go your
way. The ball bounces up in the air on the one play at the end of half. There are plays like
that that you can’t control everything, but there are plays at the end of the game where I
feel like the last one, maybe I could have done something different, put the ball in a
different location, or kind of moved on. There are things that you look back on and there’s
plays I want back for sure. So disappointing, but now we’re here on Wednesday getting
ready for the Vikings and excited for this challenge. It’s a really good defense, really good
team, and we’ve got to have a great week of prep to go get a win this weekend.”
(On how the team stays committed even when the results on the field are not what they
want) “It’s no different approach than if you’re doing well, honestly. I mean, I think it’s
harder in the sense of the frustration piece. Obviously, you want the results, and you want
to be in a different position, and you want to have more wins than we have right now. But
there’s really nothing else for us to do than to go to work. We can’t just get frustrated, and
we have a job to do at the end of the day. It’s to do everything we can do in our power as
players, as coaches, as a team to go win on Sunday. Unfortunately, we haven’t gotten that
result enough this year, but there’s still a lot of football left. We have to keep doing that
every week to go win a game on Sunday against a good team. So, you can’t let the
frustration creep late into the week and affect your preparation and affect the amount of
work you put in to go get this one, because it doesn’t get any easier. In this league, every
team you play is good. Anybody can beat you. It doesn’t let up. So, you have to prepare the
same way every week to give yourself a shot. I think we’ve done a good job of doing that.
Obviously not trying to make it sound like everything is going perfect. Obviously, it’s not. We
haven’t gotten the wins we want, but I think the team has been pretty resilient and the way
we prepare, the way we work, I thought we’ve had good hard weeks of practice. We’ve just
got to carry it over and be a little bit cleaner on Sunday and find a way to win.”
(On if he’s had any input naming any plays) “Not really. I mean, there’s been some plays
that come up where Coach can’t think of a clever word that makes sense that goes with the
concept or something. We’ll have a say in some of that, but usually they come up with the

names and they think of something. We’ve had stuff in for a while that’s maybe it’s special
plays or something like that. We’ve had stuff that’s old that comes back up and it’s like it’s
been in for a few years. So no, I haven’t had much input into the names of some of those.”
(On if they use historical names for plays) “I mean, I guess, former players. Yeah, we have a
good mix of stuff. A lot of former players. Everything is related to something. So, it all ties
back in and there’s a lot that—we’ve got a lot. So, I’m trying to think of everything we’ve got.
We’ve got a lot in the bag. I’m not going into all my plays. You all are going to get me in
trouble (laughs).”

HEAD COACH DOUG PEDERSON
MEDIA AVAILABILITY
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2024

(On what went into the decision to sign QB C.J. Beathard) “Obviously, C.J. was here and
Mac [ QB Mac Jones] was here and from our standpoint, we felt like we had a really good
quarterback room with the three guys. Obviously, C.J. got hurt there in camp and we had to
let him go and all that. But we definitely wanted to at some point get him back here. I think
it just strengthens our roster, strengthens that room. Trevor’s [QB Trevor Lawrence] sore,
obviously, and it gives us assurance, obviously. Mac is still the number two, obviously, and
prepares each week to play. Now, we’ve got another veteran quarterback on the roster.”
(On if Lawrence will practice today) “He’ll be limited today.”
(On if Lawrence’s injury is a shoulder) “Upper body, yes.”
(On the likelihood of Lawrence playing vs. Minnesota) “Can’t answer that. Can’t answer that
today. Not sitting here Wednesday, no.”
(On if the team plans on retaining three quarterbacks on the active roster for the rest of the
season) “Maybe we’ll carry them for a while and see. Where we are roster—I mean, listen,
Cooper’s [OL Cooper Hodges] going to the IR, right? I mean, we let go of Flowers [former
Jaguars CB Tre Flowers] and [WR] Christian Kirk went to IR. So, there’s spots available.
Duvernay’s [WR Devin Duvernay] coming back and things like that. So, it’s an opportunity to
bolster the roster a little bit.”
(On if OL Ezra Cleveland will practice this week) “Not full, limited basis again it’s going into
week two, I guess, for him. So again, I would say he’s on the heels of [DT] Maason Smith a
little bit that way. Maason’s closer, but still going to be limited in practice.”
(On if OL Blake Hance will play in place of Cleveland) “Correct.”

(On LS Ross Matiscik’s injury status and signing LS Peter Bowden) “Yeah, no, I mean, he’s
another one that came out of the game a little banged up and just want to make sure that,
again, with that signing to the practice squad, we have someone that can do the snapping
duties this week and let Ross rest basically and heal, but he is sore. And just to follow up
too, he did have the back, but a couple years ago. I’m not saying this is the injury, but he is
sore and just want to make sure that that he’s 100 percent.”
(On WR Gabe Davis’s status this week) “Good. He’ll be limited, you’ve seen him in the
orange jersey. He’ll stay in—him and BT [WR Brian Thomas Jr.], will both stay in the orange
jersey, just try to limit contact until game day.”
(On RB Travis Etienne Jr. ‘s status of Sunday’s game) “He was okay. I think he felt it, didn’t
re-injure himself, but felt it later in the game. The weather was cooler, so it’s hard for him
and running backs in that situation, but I think this will be a better week for him.”
(On if it’s strange to see a player in the team’s locker room, then on the opposing sideline
the following week) “Yeah, I mean you think about that kind of stuff, but it’s the NFL. You
can’t control the schedule; you can’t control that sort of thing. I know for him [OL Cam
Robinson] coming back will probably feel a little bit awkward I guess, but listen, he’s a pro.
He’s going to do everything he can to get himself ready to play. He’ll be excited to play.”
(On what stands out about Minnesota’s defense) “I think Coach Flores [Vikings defensive
coordinator Brian Flores] has just done a great job with the personnel there. He’s found
roles for their guys. It’s a multiple-front, disguise, defense. They’re going to keep the lid on
it, they’re not going to let a lot of explosive passes, which I think was a year ago was part of
the issue there, but they’ve done a great job. I think just moving guys around on defense.
They’ve got veteran guys in spots that are leaders there. That’s a physical group. It’s another
tough challenge for our offense.”
(On why Vikings QB Sam Darnold has been playing at a high level) “[Vikings WR] Justin
Jefferson? No, I think the talent around him I mean, that helps, right? Just having the run
game, the defense, the way the defense has played being in Coach O’Connell’s [Vikings
head coach Kevin O’Connell] system and the way he calls plays, I think is helpful. Look,
he’s always been a solid quarterback. Whatever team or role he’s on, I just think now he’s
learning, maturing, and showing that he’s capable of doing it. That’s what you’re seeing on
film taking care of the football. That’s a big part of this thing. Yes, Justin Jefferson is
obviously an elite receiver in this league that can wreak havoc on you.”

(On if CB Tyson Campbell will follow Justin Jefferson in the game) “No, I don’t think so. I
think it’s two ways you can look at it, right? You can take your best corner and put it on the
best receiver, or you can put your best corner on their second receiver and put two guys on
the best. That’s what teams do. That’s what defenses do. So we’ll see how the week
unfolds.”
(On using a similar plan for Jefferson to how the Philadelphia Eagles defended Thomas Jr.)
“I do, I think. Go back a year ago with Calvin [WR Calvin Ridley], right? There was a lot of
double teams. There was a lot of cloud coverage, things like that. This team that we’re
playing does that anyway. That’s just their style. That’s what they play. We’d have to go play.
We’ve got four or five other receivers that need to do their jobs too, and we’ve got to find a
way to get them to the ball.”
(On the anticipated rotation of cornerbacks vs. Minnesota) “I think we stay with Darby [CB
Ronald Darby], stay with Buster [CB Montaric Brown] and keep that rotation going. I think
it’s been good for Buster to get in the game. He’s been solid this year, been consistent. I
think Darby’s been the same way. If you’re thinking about one specific play or two specific
plays, I think you’ve got to look at the whole scheme of the defense in those circumstances,
and it’s not all about one guy. Both guys have done well, and I can see that actually being
the same thing moving forward.”
(On if he has reviewed the tape from Eagles RB Saquon Barkley’s backwards hurdle run
play with the team) “Part of the game is part of the corrections. The fact that it was
backwards is just the way he jumped and turned his body. It just happened that way. You
see it every week, guys leaping over defenders and stuff like that. You show it as normal,
and the key would have been to tackle him the first time. But no, it’s just a great play by a
great running back.”
(On if it’s difficult to convey the message of determination when the results on the field are
not ideal) “I think that comes through my approach to them on Mondays, meaning from a
head coach’s perspective, I need to show them and talk to them in a way that is
accountability, ownership. Do your job, do it better, do the little things. I got to show that in
a team setting, bring it to light, and just show the guys. Listen, this is what’s holding us back
right now. Plays X, Y, and Z, whatever it is. On the flip side of that is now you’ve got to build
them back. You’ve got to get them back ready to go for another challenge. That’s what today
is about. Last Sunday, I’m moving on. We’re moving on as a team. Another great
opportunity this week. Let’s go get better this week. Let’s get better today. Bring a lot of
energy and juice out there at practice and get ready for the Vikings.”

(On how much effort he puts into naming plays) “It’s important so that guys can—we do a
lot of word associations with these plays. You say a word. Let’s use the word “rabbit.” It’s
got Rs and As and Bs and Is and Ts. It could be B for basic, R for read, and I for whatever.
Word associations, everything means something. A lot of time is spent on the words, the
verbiage, the terminology, and then we categorize them by concept. We have multiple
categories. That’s what you spend time in the off-season doing as a staff. If you have a play
that’s a unique play and you can’t really come up with something, then you name it ‘Taylor
Swift’ or ‘Philly Special’ or ‘Oop-de-oop’ or whatever it might be. You just come up with
unique names guys can remember and go play.”
(On how many unique names are in the playbook) “There’s probably a dozen plays that are
just unique names. You really can’t find a word that fits, so you just make something up like
Mark Long.”
(On an example he has used in a past year) “I can’t. Off the top of my head, I can’t. I’ll come
back to you on Friday.”
(On if he expects S Andrew Wingard to play on Sunday) “I expect him to play. This obviously
is last week of the three-week window, so he’s feeling good. We’ll get him out there today,
tomorrow, Friday, and go. But I do. My expectation, and his expectation is to play.”
(On if signing S Tashaun Gipson Sr. more for insurance) “Yeah, I mean probably, but I think
too, even to have him around, I think was good because whether Dewey could go or not, I
mean, if that’s the insurance you’re talking about, possibly. He’s a veteran guy. So, he did
everything we asked, and it was unfortunate with the situation, but had to make a
decision.”
