(On knowing that the team can win in tough moments but also needs to fix mistakes) “Yeah,
absolutely. I mean, it’s not easy to win in this league, on the road against a team that is
fighting their tails off to get back to winning. We knew that they were going to come out and
give us a tough physical game and it was going to be four quarters or more. We understood
that even after early success offensively, it wasn’t as if, oh, we’re just going to steamroll
these guys. There was a lot of good things to learn from, a ton that we can continue to clean
up, but the resiliency, the support, the belief in the overtime from the guys was extremely
strong. I’m proud of the way that we were able to finish the game.”
(On if the game gave him confidence in QB Trevor Lawrence because he made plays when
needed to) “Like I told him, I said, I had a lot of confidence as a play caller calling pass
plays, really all throughout the game, honestly. Early on we had some protection issues that
got us and why we weren’t able to throw or catch, sustain some drives in the second
quarter specifically. Second half come out, bang, bang, bang, tip pick on a play that’s a
touchdown to Jakobi [WR Jakobi Meyers]. And then obviously Budda [Cardinals S Budda
Baker] got him. Budda made a great play on a third down where we got everybody sitting at
the sticks and Trevor’s going to throw it to the slot and Budda makes a good play. I was
extremely—as a play caller, calling it and working with those guys, I had a lot of trust and
belief that they were going to make plays in the past game and they did. I mean, he was 18
of 30 but the accuracy on a lot of the plays that we did throw and catch on, gave guys
opportunities to run and catch a few times. The throw to Parker [WR Parker Washington] for
the touchdown was unbelievable. The play made to Jakobi against zero blitz on a third
down, got to have it, was a great play. And then the throw in overtime was a huge play
between the two of those guys. So, all of my conversations with Trevor and those skill
players and the guys after the game were ‘Guys, I have more and more confidence each
week.’ I’m getting more confident as a play caller with the pass game.”
(On the Jaguars-Titans rivalry) “(laugh) Yeah, I think it’s definitely felt a little bit throughout
being here in my short time in Jacksonville. The division means something. The divisional

games, you can feel that there’s just a different level, which is what you want in divisional
games. And felt the same way in L.A. or in Tampa with whether it be Carolina, Atlanta, New
Orleans, you feel it, you know that it’s going to be a four-quarter football game. They’re
coming off of obviously some loss, but one score games at home and the quarterback’s
playing better. So, we know what this is going to be. This is going to be a dog fight.”
(On if there is an advantage to moving DE Josh Hines-Allen to different sides) “Yeah, I think
so. I think we obviously affected the quarterback more. We had six sacks, the most since
2023, 15 QB hits. Five guys had sacks. So, I do think that continuing to try to be creative
about getting our guys matchups, it’s no different than what you’re trying to do on offense
or in special teams when it comes to trying to put your best players in positions to be
successful in matchups that you think are favorable in your way. And we’ve got to continue
to do that. So, both schematically and effort and execution within the rush, I did think we
took a step forward in some ways.”
(On LB Devin Lloyd getting five quarterback hits as an off-ball linebacker) “It’s really hard. I
thought Devin played extremely fast violent in the game, had the one, obviously sack where
he ended up—unfortunately, we just got to come off him a little bit there at the end. But for
an off-the-ball backer to be able to cover some of the screens and some of the stuff
underneath but also be effective within the pressures in the games. He’s quick, you know
how big he is and athletic, so he’s good when you can get him going on some of the
pressures and matchups on running backs is hard. So was pleased with Devin’s
performance yesterday as well.”
(On how WR Brian Thomas Jr.’s playstyle compliments WR Jakobi Meyers) “Yeah, I think just
being able to continue to find ways to be explosive as an offense and create one-on-one
matchups for guys that can run and can run and make plays after the catch. So that’s what
we’re hoping to be able to get back. And it is a nice compliment to have Parker, Kob [Jakobi],
those guys continuing to work the intermediates and the choice routes, the option routes,
make some contested, tough catches in critical moments. So yeah, definitely looking for
when we can get B.T. out there for him to add to that.”
(On playing football on Thanksgiving growing up) “Yeah, that’s a great question. It was so
important. I played on Thanksgiving every year in high school. That was our rival game, as
you know, the crowds were unbelievable. You had a lot of alumni back, family, you’re
playing at 10 a.m. big game against your rival, and then you’re able to, after the game, go
and be with your family and friends and those were memories that I will always have and
treasure. Some of the best games I’ve ever been a part of and fun games playing in high

school, were on Thanksgiving Day and so many of the rivalries on Thanksgiving are so cool
to be a part of. And so yeah, it’s football, it’s November. Thanksgiving, you just think football
and I’ve always loved being a part of that.”
(On gaining confidence in the offense despite the injuries in the wide receiver room) “Yeah,
I mean, it’s just been building, I think over time. I think the guys that have been able to go
out and continue to try to put good stuff on tape, it’s been happening in practice. It’s the
intentionality throughout the week and it has shown up in improving the in the pass game.
Is it perfect? No. Are we lighting the world on fire every time we throw? No, but it has
improved and I, as the play caller as I mentioned, do have confidence in calling pass plays
that we’re going to find a completion. I thought Trevor went through his progressions well.
Like the first drive of the second half, was what, four passes in a row, whatever it was, trying
to get a little rhythm there. And you’re not doing that unless you believe. You believe you’re
going to be able to move the football that way. So that is important for us as an offense, as a
team, especially to continue to be more explosive, but to be balanced. As you go into
November, December football, we know we’ve got to be able to continue to sustain the run
and offensively we’ve got to have balance and move the chains better on third downs than
we did the other day. But the guys are believing, they’re trying, they’re working their tails off
throughout the week with limited ops because Wednesdays we’re not throwing it that
much. So, you only get two days of really full speed pass game and that sometimes takes a
hit but I do have confidence.”
(On the consistency of RB Travis Etienne Jr.) “Yeah, you just know that if you do get him
some space and get him to the second and third level that he can go and create explosives.
And then in the pass game, he has the long run and then early in the game, we had that play
early in the red zone that week. We repped it a few times. It was meant to go to Strange or TJ
[Etienne] and during the week of practice it went to TJ as well and he scored in practice. So,
we knew that that was something that we were hunting up. And when you get the ball to
him in space, he’s just been so consistent about making people miss and getting extra
[yards]. Those hidden yards are so important in a game, whether it’s in the run or the pass.
He also had a couple good pass pickups, protection pickups as well on one of Jakobi’s
second and eight choice routes. He had a great pickup on Budda, so I’ve been really
pleased with TJ.”
(On when he will be comfortable enough for TE Brenton Strange to carry a full load) “Yeah, I
think, day by day. The goal was—you know what he typically looks like coming out of
games. Like the Wounded Warrior, I mean, he is just like this, coming out of most games
because of how hard he plays, because of what he lays on the line. And so, to get him back

involved, almost have a hundred yards receiving, but not walk out of the game like
Frankenstein if you will. It was a huge deal for us because just getting him the confidence,
getting him involved, feeling his presence, impacting the game, but also coming out of it not
with any setbacks. I think that was the goal coming out of this game.”

(On whether he thought he would get into the flow of the game so quickly after coming back
from injury) “I think we had a good game plan to put me in position to do that, and just went
out there and executed the plays. So, I’m happy that they called the plays, I’m happy that
the plays worked out, and just got to keep going, keep making it happen.”
(On whether it was his preference to get involved early rather than being gradually worked
in) “Of course. I feel like always when I can get my hands on the ball early, it sets the tone
for the game and it kind of just gets me in the right mindset to play the rest of the game and
just be aggressive. So, I’m happy that the coaches got me involved early. It felt good to be
back out there and back moving around. I’m blessed and I’m thankful, man.”
(On the belief that the team will pull through in games despite adversity) “Yeah, I mean,
that’s a big thing in football. You’ve always got to—there’s always going to be adversity at
some point in time in the game, and I think that we do a good job of just sticking together.
Coach Liam [Head Coach Liam Coen] always says, we want to come like this right here
[close motion with interlocking fingers]. So, I think it’s a great thing that we do that, and
we’ve got to continue to do that for the rest of the year, and I think it’ll take us to the places
that we want to go.”
(On why the ideas of togetherness and resilience have clicked this season) “I think it’s a
different team. Obviously, we have a lot of the same guys, but we’ve been through those
things before. So, we’ve been on the other side, and we understand what it takes, and we
understand what we have to do. And I think another thing is our preparation. We work hard
every single week, come out of practice, and we do what we need to do during the week for
practice, and I think that it pays off during the game.”
(On what makes Coen relatable) “I definitely do think he is a lot more relatable. I mean, I
feel like I can go up to him, and I can say whatever I need to say to him, and I hope that he
thinks that he can do the same with me. And whether it’s a hard conversation or whatever it

is, I feel like I’m able to have those conversations with him. And I just think that’s his
personality. I feel like he’s very open and very welcoming. Like, I could reach out to him
through text or whatever it is. So, I definitely appreciate Coach Coen and everything that
he’s done.”
(On whether there is pride in winning tough and close games) “I think it’s always pride in
winning games. We want to make you guys proud. We want to make the city of Jacksonville
proud every single time we step out on the field. So, it’s always pride within it. And like I
said, we’re just trying to win games for us and the city of Jacksonville.”
(On what it says about the team to finish the game on Sunday and win) “I think it’s a big
thing with adversity, and I think that we talk about it a lot. So, I think that just staying steady
the whole entire game, that’s important for our team to do. Whether things go good,
whether things go bad, it’s just about staying steady the whole entire time. And I think that
that was something that worked well for us yesterday. No matter what happened, we just
stayed steady. Just next play. Just next play mentality through everything.”
(On QB Trevor Lawrence’s performance) “I think he stayed steady. I think Trevor did the
things that he needed to do to help us win the game. So, it is not always going to be pretty
for all of us. Sometimes I might mess up, or somebody else might mess up, and it’s not
always going to be pretty. And I think Trevor did a great job of just fighting the whole entire
game and staying steady.”
(On if confidence is built in a QB by winning a gritty performance like that) “Yeah, I mean, no
matter what goes on, I’ve always got full belief, full faith in Trevor in everything that he does.
Whatever he does, I’m right there with him, supporting him right by his side. So, I’m just
happy that we got the win.”
(On Tight Ends Coach Rich Angulo) “Yeah, from the beginning, he’s been very big in my
development since I’ve been here. He does a great job of preaching finish and sort of all the
small things that might get overlooked from other people. So, I’m very thankful for Coach
Angulo and him helping me while I’ve been here. So, he’s done a great job, and like I said,
I’m very thankful for him.”

(On facing his former team) “Yeah, I definitely had them circled as soon as I signed out
here. It was kind of strange for it to be a big deal to me before the season and everything.
Something that I had kind of looked forward to. Yesterday was my mom’s birthday, so as
soon as we kind of got the schedule and everything, like you’re playing the Cardinals and I
want to win. So it was a big deal when I first signed and then you just get into the weekly
routine, it didn’t seem like it was going to be that big of a deal until Sunday morning where
hopping on the bus, getting ready to go over there and I’m like, ‘Man, like I’m excited for this
one.’ So, it was really cool.”
(On getting a win for his mom’s birthday) “Got to deliver.”
(On winning games when facing adversity) “Yeah, I think it’s awesome for us. Obviously, it’s
not what you’re trying to do week in and week out, but I think it’s good that we can lean on
each other. I think it builds trust in all three phases of the ball, and each other on the same
side of the ball. I think it’s something that brings the locker room together. And I feel like
we’re a closer team after that win.”
(On if his mom was at the game) “She was, yes. I had my whole family out there. It was
really cool.”
(On if he spent time after the game with his family) “Yeah, we caught up in the friends and
family section for a little bit.”
(On his mom’s reaction) “She was fired up. Yeah, she was really happy. Honestly, that I
don’t know 15, 20 minutes was a blur seeing everybody, my son, my nephew, my three
brothers and my parents were all there. I had some friends, everybody that I’ve been
training with all through my time in Arizona were there, so it was cool to have everybody
there.”

(On how impressed he has been with Defensive Coordinator Anthony Campanile’s
creativity) “Yeah, absolutely. Super creative, super smart. Also, just who he is as a man and
a leader. I think the locker room and the guys really respond well to Camp, and it’s definitely
brought new life—the way he coaches brought new life into my career. Kind of being a
crusty old vet, just having somebody speak that passion and intensity into how you go
about your business has been awesome for me.”

(On how he approaches a new defensive coordinator) “I don’t really approach a player-
coach relationship with apprehension. It’s let’s dive in, let’s get to know each other. This is

what I think I’m good at. This is how I think my skills fit into this. This is kind of what he’s
thinking. I think you’ve just got to kind of jump in and trust and it means everything in this
sport. So, you’ve just kind of got to jump in with both feet.”
(On what the defense saw pregame to dial up pressure on Cardinals QB Jacoby Brissett)
“That was a tattered offensive line. I think they were on their second right tackle, they had
moved Jonah [Cardinals OL Jonah Williams] to IR. [Cardinals OL] Will Hernandez had been
splitting time with somebody. It was the offensive line that we saw we could take advantage
of. Jacoby, not being mobile, he’s mobile enough to extend throws and do all that. So, I
think it was more the offensive line than anything.”
(On how the confidence has grown as a team) “Yeah, I don’t think it’s wavered throughout
the entire season. The confidence comes from our preparation. And that has also been
consistent throughout the season. So, grow maybe in terms of you kind of have to face
some adversity to really feel the confidence, but in terms of where we felt like our level of
confidence was at has kind of been consistent. Being just as confident through the
adversity kind of reinforces it.”
(On the guys stepping in and performing on defense) “Yeah, I think that’s an NFL season
and it comes down to being prepared for when your moment comes. It’s been awesome to
see our guys respond and be able to play the way they have.”
