(Opening statement) “I have some good news to announce. The Jaguars Foundation recognized two players for a Community Leaders award: Dawuane Smoot and [Andrew] Norwell. Smoot supported Feeding Northeast Florida, Jacksonville Police Athletic League and local education and art initiatives. That is on top of being a doctor when his wife gave birth to a child. (laughter) Andrew Norwell foundation, he has done a great assisting with food insecurity and making sure kids have access to food where they live and play.”
(On telling the team about DL Dawuane Smoot’s experience delivering the baby) “Yeah, I called a team meeting and obviously he was not there, but I put him on Ring Central and had him tell the story to the team and they all stood up and clapped for him. I have been around a while and I have never heard anything like that, so why not share it?”
(On RB James Robinson injury status) “Questionable, today is an important day.”
(On testing RB James Robinson on Sunday to determine if he can play) “I hope not, I hope today is a good day or tomorrow.”
(On if RB James Robinson looked good at practice yesterday) “Yeah, he had 12 plays I think.”
(On if RB Carlos Hyde will get snaps even if RB James Robinson can play) “Oh we are going to mix in Carlos [Hyde] for sure.”
(On what it would mean to start a winning streak) “I just think it is momentum. I learned this; I think Lou Holtz shared this with me when I was a young coach. ‘Momentum with a young team is worth 14 points a game.’ Momentum with a mature team – this is at the college level [I learned this] – I am still learning
the pro level, but it is worth seven points with a veteran team. You know what it would mean for Jacksonville, what would it mean for our stadium the following week and most importantly what would it mean for a locker room that three fourths of those guys were part of a 20-game losing streak. It would be incredible. We do not talk much about that. I think it is more just the respect we have for our opponent. The best version of us is pretty good but the bad version of us is really bad. You saw the game last night, I have always heard this about the NFL but now that I live in it, they are all professional athletes. Anybody, any day, any week. The Dolphins played; well I fell asleep in the second half but they played fantastic. Their defense was zero coverage all night, good defense.”
(On if he has liked what he has seen this week from the team) “No, I loved it, love it. Good energy, we are kind of backing off a little bit. You change your schedule for them so there is a little more time. We are done at 4 [P.M.] instead of 5 [P.M.] and some other things this time of the year.”
(On how QB Trevor Lawrence has been moving around) “He is good, ready to roll.”
(On QB Trevor Lawrence being questionable this weekend) “I do not think so, no. Same with Cam [Robinson] and Myles [Jack]. They are good to go.”
(On if Myles Jack’s injury is concerning) “Not concerning. That was kind of a [situation] where we could have practiced him on Wednesday, but we made a decision not to.”
