(On the development of OL Walker Little and WR Laquon Treadwell) “Yeah, we watched all the tape this morning. I thought Walker [Little] did a really nice job for himself. The things that the coaches are going to harp on are just more technical stuff. But [he] protected the quarterback, [he] did the things that we
were asking him to do. So, I like that. And then Tread [Laquon Treadwell] has always continued to get better each game for us. He made a couple of nice plays, one ball went through his hands, he kind of bobbled it as well. But he’s showed up for us in some big moments and made some good plays.”
(On whether there was a miscommunication on defense on Patriots’ WR Kristian Wilkerson’s 20-yard touchdown) “Yeah there was miscommunication there in terms of what coverage we were in. We have two calls at that point and we’ve got to make sure we communicate it to all 11 players. So, we had pretty much everybody except for one guy playing the coverage that was called. Miscommunication can’t happen, particularly in those moments. You leave a guy free like that, in this league, they’re not going to miss him.”
(On WR Laviska Shenault, Jr. snap count coming off of the Reserve/COVID-19 list) “Yeah, the whole COVID deal last week made it difficult, just in terms of all the game planning [with] everything that was going on. Laviska [Shenault, Jr.] we call him 2Live—that’s always in my brain—2Live, he’s out there in practice and he got just very few live reps. So, we wanted to be able to manage his conditioning level. There were packages for him in the game, game plan specific wise, so we were able to get him in there. But if you kind of overdo it a little bit, then I think it could’ve been an issue for him, so we were just making sure we’re doing right by him.”
(On what he sees for WR Laviska Shenault, Jr.’s future) “Yeah, I mean, he’s a heck of a player and the one thing that you know is you need to get the ball in his hands. I think all of us have seen that, when he has the ball in his hands, he can do great things with it.”
(On QB Trevor Lawrence frustration level after everything that has transpired this season) “There’s a high frustration level with a lot of guys. I don’t think any of us envisioned the season going the way that it did. When you start here, whatever it was, 11 months ago, you have these great visions in your head of how this thing’s going to go. Obviously, Trevor [Lawrence] coming in as a rookie quarterback, I think he thought it was going to go a particular way, but there’s been a lot of struggles. There’s been a lot of lessons learned. There’s been everything that we’re fighting through, a lot of adversity, so he’s gotten his fair share of that this year. I think he’s handled it tremendously. I think he’s been upstanding in all the things we’ve asked him to do. He’s faced the music every time he’s needed to. He’s taken responsibility for things that he’s needed to, but one guy can’t do it all by himself. Regardless of how good that player is, you need help from the other guys around you and all of us have to be better.”
(On QB Trevor Lawrence’s confidence taking a hit after a rough rookie year) “I really don’t think so. Just the make-up that he has, I’m really impressed with him. As I’ve told you many times, I’m just impressed with the poise that he has and the responsibility he’s willing to take for the things that he needs to take responsibility for. He’s learning from all of these. As long as he continues to take those as learning
moments and improves from them and gets better, I don’t think that these are deep scars. I mean he hasn’t gotten beat up or pounded in the games with that kind of stuff, so he’s been able to handle the situations as they come.”
(On his approach to the COVID situation with the newer protocols from the past couple of weeks) “That’s really been a touchy subject just in terms of that. We have to do right by these guys and if these guys end up having symptoms and things, whether it’s Thursday, Friday, or whatever, I think it’s right for them to be able to go get tested. I can’t stand in the way of that. All of them know the rules. All of them know what we’re playing for. I mean they know everything, it’s all laid out for them, so they have to make decisions for themselves.”
(On how LB Myles Jack got back to Jacksonville after he was unable to play in the game at the New York Jets) “He drove back.”
(On LB Myles Jack renting a car and driving back to Jacksonville from New York) “Yes. He was with a trainer. There was another person with him, so it wasn’t by himself. I forgot about that.”
(On why the offense wasn’t working this year) “There’s a lot of places to start on that, so it might be too long of a conversation. But suffices to say, we haven’t been able to play the way that I think that we were capable of playing. There’s a lot of things that go into it and really, I could just leave it at that. We made too many mistakes, didn’t make the plays when we needed to make them, we turned the ball over, and that led to where we are right now.”
