MINSHEW MANIA: Rookie QB Gardner Minshew II completed 26 of 44 passes (59.1 comp. pct.) for 374 yards and two TDs for a passer rating of 101.9, becoming the first player in NFL history to throw for at least 200 passing yards with a passer rating of at least 95.0 in each of his first five career games. Minshew is the first player in franchise history to throw for at least 200 passing yards with a passer rating of at least 95.0 in five consecutive games. In addition, Minshew became the sixth rookie in NFL history to throw for at least 370 yards and two TDs with zero INTs. Through five career games, Minshew has completed 110 of 165 passes for 1,279 yards, nine TDs and one INT for a passer rating of 105.6. Minshew joins Kansas City QB Patrick Mahomes (2017-18), San Francisco QB Nick Mullens (2018), Houston QB Deshaun Watson (2017) and Tennessee QB Marcus Mariota (2015) as the only QBs over the last 13 seasons to throw at least nine TD passes through five career games. In Sunday’s game, Minshew set the franchise rookie record for passing yards in a single game with 374 and has now thrown for the most passing yards (1,279) through five career games in franchise history. Minshew, in addition to Carolina QB Kyle Allen and Mahomes, are the only players to post a passer rating of at least 105.0 through five career games in NFL history (min. 50 pass attempts). The Jaguars accumulated 507 total net yards of offense in today’s game, the fourth-most in a game in franchise history. Minshew completed passes to eight different receivers today, including four WRs, two RBs and two TEs.
CHARK ATTACK: Second-year WR DJ Chark Jr. caught eight passes for 164 yards (20.5 rec. avg.) and two TDs in today’s game at Carolina, posting career-highs in receptions, receiving yards and receiving TDs. Chark has now caught five TD passes this season, tied for the second-most through the team’s first five games in franchise history. Sunday’s performance marked the first time a Jaguars player has caught multiple TDs in a single game since WR Jaydon Mickens on Dec. 17, 2017. Chark joins former WR Jimmy Smith (Sept. 10, 2000) as the only players to register at least 160 receiving yards and two-plus receiving TDs in a single game. In 2019, Chark has caught 27 passes for 485 yards (18.0 rec. avg.) and five TDs and leads the AFC in receiving yardage, receiving TDs and yards-per-catch (min. 20 receptions). Head Coach Doug Marrone challenged a Chark catch that was originally ruled an incompletion, and the call was overturned (Chark’s catch led to Leonard Fournette’s 1-yard rushing TD). Since becoming the full-time head coach in 2017, Marrone has challenged 19 plays and had 14 overturned (73.7 pct. overturn rate).
YANNICK NSACKOUE: Fourth-year DE Yannick Ngakoue posted 2.0 sacks in Sunday’s game. This marked his sixth career game with at least 2.0 sacks, tied for the second-most in franchise history. Only former DL Tony Brackens (eight) has posted more games with 2.0-plus sacks in franchise history. Ngakoue has now totaled 31.5 career sacks, the most through 52 career games in franchise history. Of his 31.5 career sacks, 10 have been strip-sacks.
LAMBO-MATIC: Fifth-year K Josh Lambo converted a 35-yard FG late in the second quarter and made a 38-yard FG attempt in the fourth quarter. In 2019, he has now made all 12 FG attempts. Lambo has made 50 of 53 FG attempts with the Jaguars since he signed with the team on Oct. 17, 2017. Overall, his 94.3 FG pct. is the highest in franchise history and the highest by any player in the NFL since 2017 (min. 10 FGA).
FOURNETTE OVER THE CENTURY MARK: Third-year RB Leonard Fournetterushed 23 times for 108 yards (4.7 rush avg.) and one TD in Sunday’s game, and also caught four passes for 29 yards. After rushing for a career-high 225 yards in Week 4 at Denver, Fournette has now posted consecutive games with 100-plus rushing yards for the first time since his rookie season in 2017. Fournette has now posted seven career games with 100-plus rushing yards, the second-most in franchise history through 26 career games (RB Fred Taylor – nine). Fournette’s 1-yard TD run in the third quarter marked the Jaguars’ first rushing TD of the 2019 season and the 17th of Fournette’s 26-game career. Fournette’s 17 career TDs are the third-most through 26 career regular season games in franchise history (RBMaurice Jones-Drew – 23 and RB Taylor – 23). Fournette totaled 137 scrimmage yards in today’s game and has totaled at least 85 scrimmage yards in five consecutive games, the longest active streak in the NFL. Today’s game marked Fournette’s 12th time totaling at least 100 scrimmage yards, and his 12 career games with 100-plus scrimmage yards are the most through 26 career games in franchise history. Fournette currently leads the AFC in rushing with 512 rushing yards on 95 carries (5.4 rushing avg.).
JOSHIN’ AROUND: Rookie DE Josh Allen sacked Panthers QB Kyle Allen in the second quarter and has now totaled 3.0 career sacks in his five-game NFL career. He is the fourth player in franchise history (LB Kevin Hardy, DT John Henderson, DE Yannick Ngakoue) to register at least 3.0 sacks through five career games.
CALAIS BLOCKS A FIELD GOAL: In the second quarter, DL Calais Campbell blocked a panthers FG attempt. It marked the first blocked FG by a Jaguars player since former DL Tyson Alualu on Sept. 27, 2015.
