First-year DC included among nominees for top assistant coach honor
CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Defensive coordinator Lance Guidry was named a candidate for the Broyles Award honoring the nation’s top assistant coach, it was announced Tuesday.
Guidry, who spent the previous two seasons at Marshall before arriving in Coral Gables, has made his impact felt in his first season as coordinator at The U.
Among teams in the ACC, the Hurricanes rank No. 3 in total defense (No. 19 in FBS), No. 1 in sacks (No. 7 in FBS), No. 2 in tackles for loss (No. 10 in FBS) and No. 1 in rushing defense (No. 7 in FBS).
The Canes are one of just 20 teams in all of FBS allowing fewer than 315.0 yards per game in 2023.
In last week’s game at Florida State, the Hurricanes allowed the Seminoles to record just 57 net rushing yards last week, their fifth time holding their opponent to 60 or fewer net rushing yards this season. That performance tied Miami for the most such games in the FBS this season, along with only two other teams – Air Force and Nebraska.
