Tulsa, Okla. –The Tulsa Golden Hurricane men’s cross-country team won their 10th straight conference championship at the 2023 American Athletic Conference Cross Country Championship, while Tulane women won their first American team title in program history.
The Tulsa men earned a tenth straight championship since joining The American in 2014, claiming 4th, 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th place with Charlie Krasnoff leading the Golden Hurricane with a time of 23:00.6. Krasnoff also took home the Freshman of the Year award as the top finishing freshman. Malte Propp (23:07.6) followed in 7th place, with Chris McLeod (23:09.6), Johnny Livingstone (23:12.2) and Christian Baker (23:13.8) rounding out the top Golden Hurricane finishers.
Charlotte’s Nick Scudder led the 49ers to a second-place finish and took home the individual title with a time of 22:33.4. 49ers teammate Maddon Muhammad was in third place with a time of 22:56.7, followed by Alec Esposito (23:15.4; 11th), Braden Lange (23:20.8, 13th) and Hunter White (23:34.5, 16th).
Tulane finished with three all-conference selections in Bradley Makuvire (2nd, 22:55.6), Illia Kunin (5th, 23:02.3) and Jack Jennings (6th, 23:05.1). Other top finishers included North Texas’ Victor Neiva (12th, 23:19.6), Rice’s Gus Gannon (14th, 23:23.7) and Wichita State’s Jackson Caldwell (23:31.7).
The Tulane women finished atop the leaderboard in The American for the first time in program history as Gemma Rebollo took home the individual title with a time of 20:39.2. Julia Anna Lily Bell finished in 4th place with a time of 20:53.7. The other top finishers for the Green Wave included Danna Diaz (5th, 20:58.0), Paula Vaquera (10th, 21:15.8) and Sophia McNerny (22nd, 21:46.8).
Wichita State’s Lucy Ndungu finished as the runner-up with a time of 20:45.8, followed by SMU’s Kaitlyn Gearin in third place with a time of 20:50.6. Other top finishers included Charlotte teammates Lauren Johnston (6th; 21:05.1), Nadia Phillips (Freshman of the Year; 8th; 21:13.2), Cali Coffin (12th; 21:24.7) and Jenna Newman (13th; 21:25.8). SMU added Maddie Hulcy (11th place; 21.19.9) and Flora Tissier (15th; 21:29.7), while Wichita State had Miranda Dick finish in 7th place with a time of 21:09.6. Temple added Elsa Chan in 9th place with a time of 21:15.0.
Tulsa assistant coach Taylor Gulley captured American Men’s Coach of the Year honors following the 8K win. Tulane head coach Adrian Meyers captured the American Women’s Coach of the Year honors after leading the Green Wave to victory.
