| 6/27/2025 | General BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University has announced its immediate intent to support its Athletics Competitive Excellence Fund (CEF) with an annual multi-million-dollar allocation of auxiliary funds, as recently allowed by the Florida Board of Governors. The FAU Board of Trustees approved the measure on Friday.The university plans to commit an average of $5 million per year to the CEF, which, when combined with private giving, allows Florida Atlantic to far exceed the minimum investment requirements set by the American Athletic Conference.  “While we continue to invest heavily in our academic and research missions, having a competitive athletics program is an important aspect of our university’s success on and off the field,” said Florida Atlantic President Adam Hasner. “In the new paradigm of intercollegiate athletics, these funds represent a downpayment on our investment in competitive excellence while we also improve the student athlete experience across all our men’s and women’s programs.””We witnessed during the Final Four run in 2023 how much of a positive impact athletics has on the university,” said Florida Atlantic Board of Trustee Chairman Piero Bussani. “We don’t want our past successes to be a moment in time. We want to continue to build on that momentum – not just for athletics, but for the university’s national profile and student experience.””Florida Atlantic has never wavered from its commitment to providing championship resources for our student-athletes, and this is yet another strong example of that commitment,” said Vice President and Director of Athletics Brian White. “This is a transformational investment that propels FAU Athletics well into the future. I want to thank Chairman Piero Bussani, the Board of Trustees and President Adam Hasner for embracing our mission and furthering the incredible momentum we have achieved.”The Department of Athletics launched the Competitive Excellence Fund in early June to help fund a premier student-athlete experience where the Owls can compete at the highest level and win championships. Additionally, it lets FAU Athletics be strategic in directing the funds to address the department’s priorities of greatest need.Anonymous gifts of $500,000 and $250,000 to the Competitive Excellence Fund were recently announced by Athletics.#WIP |
