BOCA RATON, Fla. – In commemoration of the continued generosity shown by Michelle and Michael Hagerty, Florida Atlantic Athletics unveiled the Hagerty Family Athletics Village monument sign during a gathering Tuesday afternoon.
The sign, which stands nearly 15-feet high and includes a double-sided LED digital display, is situated at the corner of University Drive and Volusia Street at the main entrance to the Hagerty Family Athletics Village.
“This is a special day, and I want to thank Michelle and Michael for their incredible generosity,” said Vice President and Director of Athletics Brian White during his remarks on Tuesday. “The Hagerty Family Athletics Village is the home to our 450 student-athletes, coaches and staff. This is our home. It not only helps us create a better experience for our current student-athletes, but also helps us recruit future student-athletes.”
Michelle and Michael made an initial transformative gift of $5 million towards the creation of the Hagerty Family Athletics Village in 2022, with another significant gift from the couple being announced last December.
Florida Atlantic’s athletic facilities included in the Hagerty Family Athletics Village include the track and related facilities, known as the Hagerty Family Track and Field Complex; the Tom Oxley Athletic Center; Abessinio Court at Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena; Kimberly V. Strauss Tennis Center; FAU Swimming Facility; Hoan Joyce Field at FAU Softball Stadium; FAU Soccer Stadium; FAU Baseball Stadium; and FAU Beach Volleyball Complex.
Previous projects within the Hagerty Athletics Village have included an on-going renovation to the Tom Oxley Center, which serves as the hub for all FAU sports except football. That project includes a complete overhaul of the grand lobby, interior and exterior aesthetic upgrades, along with renovations to the Olympic sports weight room, student-athlete lounge, team video room, athletic training room, individual sport areas.
The gifts have also provided for other significant enhancements within the village to include the installation of a new running track at the Hagerty Family Track & Field Complex, aesthetic improvements and the addition of state-of-the-art LED lighting inside Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena, the reconstruction and expansion of five competition courts at the FAU Beach Volleyball Complex and assisted with the completion of the Baseball Performance Center.
Long-time benefactors to Florida Atlantic, the Hagerty’s initial gift to athletics came in August of 2021 to name the head football coach position, now known as the Hagerty Family Head Football Coach. In addition to their philanthropic support of athletics, the Hagerty Family has championed other essential projects for athletics, along with generously supporting the department’s NIL initiatives.
