ATHENS, Ga. – The No. 4/6 men’s and women’s swim & dive teams had a strong showing in day one of the Georgia Fall Invitational, as both teams sit at the top of the leaderboard following seven events.

Overall, the program recorded 26 NCAA B-cut times and four NCAA A-cut times. Both of the men’s relay A team’s and the women’s 400 medley relay A Team tallied an A-cut time, while sophomore Bella Sims posted the only Gator individual A-cut time of the day. The sophomore posted a first-place time of 4:31.06 in the 500 freestyle to reset her program record she set during her freshman season. Furthermore, 16 Gator men and 13 women swam NCAA B-Cut times.

Not only did Sims set the women’s 500 free record but she also reset the women’s 100 backstroke record after clocking a 49.93 as the leadoff in the 400 medley relay. Additionally, the women updated seven spots between three events on the program’s top-10 times sheet. On the men’s side Julian Smith had two top-10 program times himself, while additionally being a member of the men’s 400 medley relay who recorded the fifth-best time in program history. The senior posted the program’s seventh-best individual time in the 200 IM and his leadoff 19.00 50 freestyle time in the 200 free relay ranks eighth-best individually.

Josh Liendo and Julian Smith earned two individual wins for the Gator men and were both part of the two winning relay teams. Zoe Dixon and Sims recorded a pair of first-place wins for the women, as Sims was also the leadoff for the women’s first-place 400 medley relay team.

Diving
Gator Diving saw five or their six advance to either the finals or the consolation final. In the men’s 3-meter springboard, Conor Gesing finished fourth overall, Peyton Donald improved his prelim score by over 10 points to follow in fifth place. Elisha Dees finished in the top-16 during prelims to earn a spot in the consolation final, where the junior scored a 298.00 for 11th overall.

Camyla Monroy stayed steady in the women’s 1-meter, earning second in the finals after advancing with a second-place prelim score. Casey Greenberg represented Florida in the women’s 1-meter consolation final, where the Gainesville native placed 14th overall.

Up Next
Day two of the Invite kicks off with 9:30 a.m. prelims with the 400y IM, 100y fly, 200y Free, 100y Breast and 100y Back events taking place inside Gabrielsen Natatorium. Men’s 3-meter and women’s 1-meter diving prelims will follow 11:30 a.m., with finals taking place at 5:30 p.m. Swimming finals will also begin at 5:30, as the 200y Medley Relay and the 800y free relay will bookend Thursday’s finals.
