Florida will host the NCAA first and second rounds for the 23rd time in program history
GAINESVILLE, Fla | The No. 15 Florida was selected as the number fourteen seed in the 2024 NCAA Women’s Tennis Tournament. The Gators will enter the first round with a 15-8 overall record (11-2 SEC). Florida is also set to host the first and second rounds for the 23rd time in program history.
After the Regional Championships, Super Regional play will begin to determine the eight teams who will earn their spot into the NCAA National Championships which will be held at the Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater, Oklahoma from May 16-25.
The Gators will begin their NCAA Tournament journey facing Stetson University. This will be the first time the two teams have seen each other since 2009, where Florida defeated the Hatters 6-1 marking a 4-0 winning streak over Stetson for the Orange and Blue.
ABOUT THE COMPETITION
An unranked Stetson team will enter the matchup with a 15-6 overall record and is undefeated (10-0) in the ASUN conference. In Stetson’s last matchup, the Hatters defeated Florida Gulf Coast 4-1, to claim the ASUN conference regular season tournament championship.
The second match will be between No. 22 Miami (11-7) and No. 28 FIU (19-2).
IN THE FIRST & SECOND ROUNDS
Florida proves to be a difficult out in the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament each year. In the first round, the Gators are a perfect 23-0 and an impressive 19-4 in the second round. Last season, UF defeated South Alabama, 4-0 in the first round of the tournament before taking the victory over in-state rival Florida State 4-1 in the second round. Including the 2024 season, the Gators have hosted the opening rounds of the NCAA Tournament 23 times in program history.
