Gator Soccer Loses 1-0 at No. 22 South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Florida soccer lost 1-0 at No. 22 South Carolina Thursday evening in front of 1,720 at the Eugene E. Stone III Stadium.

The match was played a day early as Hurricane Ian is expected to impact the Columbia, S.C., area. In addition to early play for soccer, USC’s football game versus South Carolina State was also played Thursday evening.

Thursday’s scoring:
Both teams turned in four shots and no goals in the opening half.

South Carolina scored in the 61st minute. From the edge of the box, Corinna Zullo sent the ball to the top of the box for Catherine Barry. Her right-footed shot took a bounce just before crossing the line at the far post. It was Barry’s fourth goal to lead the Gamecocks in 2022.

The Gators did have some great opportunities Thursday. Junior Julianne Leskauskas had a pair of good looks in the opening half. Her first was a 20-yard left-footed shot just high of the near post upper corner. Later, she picked up the ball free above the box and moved past a pair of defenders to take a 10-yard shot that was stopped by USC’s Heather Hinz. With seven minutes left in the match, redshirt freshman’s Oakley Rasmussen’s 20-yard shot was just wide of the far post corner.

Tonight’s result was Florida’s sixth loss of 2022 by a single goal.
