Gardner’s Shutout Gives FAU Series Win

MIAMI –Lynn Gardner threw her eighth shutout of the season to lift the Florida Atlantic University softball team to a 1-0 win over FIU. The Sunday victory gives the Owls a series win and bumps FAU’s record to 24-22 and 11-7 in Conference USA play.
GARDNER POWERS FAU TO VICTORY

Gardner went the distance for her 17th complete game of the season. She surrendered only three hits and struck out three batters. Gardner’s record now stands at 14-7 with a 2.33 ERA. Entering this weekend, she ranked ninth in the nation in shutouts.

The Panthers put two on with two out in both the fourth and fifth inning, but Gardner forced pop ups to get out of both jams. Only three runners reached second base throughout the game.
CUNNINGHAM GOES YARD

Kaitlyn Cunningham solo home run in the top of the fifth inning provided the scoring. Cunningham had a big day, going 3-for-4 and extending her career-high hitting streak to nine games. Over that stretch, the FAU center fielder is hitting .416 (10-for-24).  She is four games shy of FAU’s longest hitting streak of the season, which came from Sara Berthiaume.

FAU tallied nine hits today with two coming from Olivia Peterson, one being a triple. Cammeo PresuttiZoey JonesMyah Murray and Riley Olson each collected a hit.
BACK AT IT NEXT WEEKEND

The Owls will return to the diamond to host UTSA next weekend from April 29-May 1. The Owls will hold Senior Day on Sunday prior to the game.
