Fans are invited to TIAA Bank Field on Sunday to see the Jacksonville Jaguars take on the New York Jets. The game kicks off at 1 p.m. and will be broadcast by CBS locally on WJAX and on radio on WJXL (1010AM, 92.5 FM) and 99.9 FM Gator Country. Sunday’s game is presented by Baptist Health.
JAGUARS MAKE CRUCIAL CATCH
The NFL and American Cancer Society are celebrating their 11th year working together to fight cancer through the “Crucial Catch: Intercept Cancer” campaign. The Jaguars will recognize Crucial Catch during their Week 8 game versus the Jets. Fans will see the official multi-colored logo around TIAA Bank Field and on helmet decals, cleats, towels, sideline caps and other equipment. Cancer survivors from the First Coast will hold two American field flags during the national anthem. More than 200 guests of the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund will stand in the north end zone during pregame warmups and the anthem. Jaheim, a Jay Fund patient who was diagnosed with a brain tumor in August 2019, along with his mom, Marissa, will represent the foundation on the field during the coin toss.
CANCER SURVIVOR VETERAN TO PERFORM NATIONAL ANTHEM
The Star-Spangled Banner will be performed by U.S. Marine veteran Edward G. Schrank, a six-time cancer survivor who incurred the disease from chemical exposure while serving 15 years in the military from 1996 – 2013. Although he lost his left eye and portions of his skull in 2007 during his first bout with cancer from exposure to jet fuel, Schrank fought successfully to remain on active duty in the Marine Corps until the second occurrence. During his fifth battle with cancer, he was told he would have his jaw removed and would not be able to speak and may not survive. Shrank found a new team of doctors that saved his life and his voice. In 2019, he has performed the national anthem at stadiums across the country to raise funds to support military families during cancer treatment. This year he has already performed at Lambeau Field and Mercedes Benz Stadium. For more information on Schrank, click here or visit his web site atwww.edwardschrank.com.
On hand to interpret the national anthem will be students from the Florida School for the Deaf & Blind. The colors will be presented by the Jacksonville University NROTC Color Guard.
NEW STADIUM ENTRY GATE
This week, the Jaguars and our stadium partners will introduce a new entry gate as part of ongoing improvements to the game day fan experience. Gate 5, located on the south side of the Dream Finders Homes Flex Field at Daily’s Place, will welcome fans approaching the stadium from the south along Gator Bowl Blvd. Located between Dream Finders Homes Gate 1 and Lycamobile Gate 4, Gate 5 will open at 10 a.m. and welcome fans through the Dream Finders Homes Flex Field hangar doors. All pre-existing gates will remain open. Attendees parking in Lots F, K, H, Q and X are encouraged to consider using the new magnetometers and ticket scanners at the new entrance.
THE FIRST DUUUVAL
This week, TIAA Bank Field welcomes back former WR Jimmy Smith to lead fans in the First DUUUVAL of the game moments before kickoff from high atop the southeast flag pole tower. Smith was named No. 3 on the Jaguars All-25 presented by Sharpie, a collection of the top 25 non-active players in franchise history, as voted on by members of the local media. The five-time Pro Bowler became the most recent member of the Pride of the Jaguars when he was inducted on Dec. 11, 2016. He is the Jaguars’ all-time leader in all major receiving categories, including receptions (862), receiving yards (12,287), receiving TDs (67) and yards per reception (14.3, minimum 100 receptions). The First DUUUVAL is presented by Duval Motor Company.
MILITARY HONOREES
During the game, the Jaguars will honor retired U.S. Marine Corp. Gunnery Sgt. Phil Wright as the Veteran of the Game presented by Dr. Patrick Basile. Wright served 22 years in the armed forces, mobilizing three times and training troops going into both Desert Storm and Desert Shield. The First Data Veteran-Owned Business of the Game is Tasty Dog represented by its owners, Laura and Kevin Lee, who together served a combined 18 years in the U.S. Navy. As the game enters the fourth quarter, the Navy Mutual Bell Ringer will be Cmdr. Michael Minervini, executive officer for Unmanned Patrol Squadron ONE NINE at Naval Air Station Jacksonville. He has served 17 years in the U.S. Navy, deploying to countries around the world and earning six Navy Commendation Medals.
SECURE DIGITAL TICKETING
In conjunction with Ticketmaster, the Jaguars will utilize secure digital ticketing this season. Fans will continue to utilize the Official Jacksonville Jaguars app to access their mobile tickets on game day. This year, they will now notice that each ticket has a moving barcode. This dynamic barcode updates every 15 seconds, eliminating the ability to use a screenshot as entry to TIAA Bank Field, and further preventing counterfeit tickets. Fans can still conveniently transfer tickets to friends or family via email or text using their mobile device.
Fans are encouraged to download or update the free Official Jacksonville Jaguars app on both Apple and Android devices. The Jaguars have also developed a detailed secure digital ticket guide to aid fans in accessing, transferring or selling their tickets for the upcoming season. Fans can access this tutorial and view answers to a list of frequently asked questions at www.jaguars.com/mobiletickets.
BE PREPARED ON GAME DAY
The NFL’s clear bag policy is in effect at TIAA Bank Field. Fans are encouraged to leave all bags at home, but, if necessary, it should be either a clear bag no larger than 12” x 6” x 12”, or a non-clear bag no larger than 4.5” x 6.5.” Strict size enforcement will be in place for all non-clear bags. Fans are encouraged to arrive early and plan for traffic accordingly. Fans should plan to be inside stadium gates at least one hour prior to kickoff.
