Three Seminoles – QB Jordan Travis, WR Keon Coleman & OL Bless Harris – were named ACC Players of the Week after FSU’s 45-24 win over No. 5 LSU Sunday night. With the win, FSU jumped to No. 4 in the AP Poll and No. 5 in the Coaches Poll.
Travis, Coleman, Harris Named ACC Players of the Week
TALLAHASSEE – After a dominant 45-24 win over No. 5 LSU Sunday to open the 2023 season, Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis, wide receiver Keon Coleman and offensive lineman Bless Harris were named ACC Players of the Week Tuesday afternoon.
Travis, a redshirt senior from West Palm Beach, completed 23 of 31 passes for 342 yards and a career-high four touchdowns – with three going to Coleman – to earn his first career ACC Quarterback of the Week honor. Travis added a touchdown and 38 rushing yards on the ground to become the only quarterback in the country over the last 10 seasons with four passing and one rushing touchdown against a Top 5 team in the regular season, and the only QB with that stat line against an FBS opponent this season.
Travis completed 11 consecutive passes in the second half – one shy of his career high – and had six completions of at least 20 yards, including four of 40 yards or more. Through one week, Travis leads the ACC in total offense (380 yards, fifth nationally), passing yards, passing touchdowns, passing yards per attempt (11.03) and total touchdowns responsible for.
For his career, Travis now ranks second in FSU history with 75 total touchdowns, six shy of No. 1 Chris Weinke. He is fifth with 8,002 yards of total offense and sixth with 49 touchdown passes.
Travis was also recognized Tuesday as a Davey O’Brien Great 8 recipient and one of eight Manning Award Stars of the Week.
Coleman, a junior from Opelousas, Louisiana, caught nine passes for 122 yards and three touchdowns, the most for a Seminole in his FSU debut, and the most for any Nole since the 2017 Independence Bowl. Coleman slipped a tackle on his first catch and ran 40 yards for a touchdown to give FSU a 7-0 lead. He tacked on a 21-yard touchdown to tie the game in the second quarter, and extended FSU’s lead with a 7-yard score in the fourth quarter.
A preseason Biletnikoff Award recipient, Coleman leads the ACC in touchdowns, scoring, receptions and receiving yards.
Harris, a redshirt senior from New Orleans, returned from a season-ending injury against Duquesne in the 2022 season opener and played 55 snaps off the bench against No. 5 LSU. Harris was PFF’s highest-graded offensive lineman for the Noles as FSU extended its streak of 35 points to seven games, the longest active streak in the country.
FSU did not allow a sack against the Tigers for the second consecutive season.
The Seminoles return to action Saturday, hosting Southern Miss in the 2023 home opener at 8:30 p.m. on ACC Network.
