Four-Game Homestand Starts Wednesday

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University men’s basketball team is off to its best start in program history. The 7-1 Owls are riding a six-game winning streak and have a big test ahead when they will welcome in-state foe Florida Gulf Coast to town on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. Owl fans are encouraged to wear black for Wednesday night’s key matchup.

FAU HITS NO. 23 RANKING

The Owls’ hot start has caught notice on a national level. In the first NCAA Net Rankings of the season, FAU was ranked No. 23 in the nation. UAB is the second-highest ranked Conference USA team at No. 55.

“We are pleased about where we are after eight games,” FAU head coach Dusty May said. “We will continue to improve, and we are excited about the trajectory of our team.”

STATS & NOTES

  • Last time out, the Owls crushed Eastern Michigan by a 101-73 tally, passing the century mark for the first time in nearly two years (Jan. 16, 2021 vs. FIU). Against EMU, FAU shot an impressive 60% from the field (39-of-65) which is the second-straight game the Owls have shot over 60%
  • On the season, FAU is shooting 49.2% from the field, which ranks 35th in the nation. The Owls are also in the top 25 in Division I 3-point percentage, shooting 39.4% as a team to rank 23rd in the nation
  • Not only has FAU been winning, the Owls have been winning big. FAU has won three out of its last four games by 20 points or more and the last four by at least 15 points
  • The Owls displayed an incredible offensive attack against Eastern Michigan last time out, en route to FAU’s first 100-point performance since Jan. 16  2021 against FIU. FAU also made 39 field goals, which was the first time hitting over 35 buckets since Nov. 20, 2021 against North Dakota. FAU had six players shoot over 50% in Bryan Greenlee (10-11) Nick Boyd (6-10), Jalen Gaffney (5-9), Johnell Davis (4-7), Giancarlo Rosado (3-4), and Isaiah Gaines (2-2)
  • FAU is ranked 14th in the nation in defensive rebounds per game with an average of 29.7 boards per game. That also leads Conference USA. The Owls’ leading rebounders are Alijah Martin (5.8 rpg.), Vladislav Goldin (5.4 rpg.) and Boyd (4.7 rpg.)
  • The Owls have recorded more assists than their opponent in every game this season. FAU’s balanced attack has also resulted in several different leading scorers, with six Owls leading in scoring in the eight games this season. FAU has had a different leading scorer in the last four games
