Four American Teams Earn NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship Bids

IRVING, Texas – Four American Athletic Conference men’s soccer teams have earned bids to the 2023 NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Championship. Charlotte, Memphis, FIU and SMU are all headed to the national tournament.

This marks the seventh time that multiple teams from The American have received bids to the NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship.

Charlotte (12-3-1), the 2023 American Athletic Conference Championship winners, will host High Point (10-3-5) on Thursday, November 16 in the first round. The winner will travel to Clemson, South Carolina to take on the No. 9 seed Clemson (10-3-5) on Sunday, November 19. This marks the 17th trip to the NCAA Championship for Charlotte and first since 2021.

SMU (13-2-2) will have a first-round bye in the tournament, earning the No. 6 seed. The Mustangs will face the winner of the first-round match-up between Denver (11-2-5) and LIU (10-5-3) on Sunday, November 19. This is the 35th trip to the NCAA Championship for SMU.

FIU (9-4-4) will host Mercer (7-5-8) on Thursday, November 16 in the first round of the tournament. The winner will travel to Charlottesville, Virginia to take on No. 7 seed Virginia (10-3-4) on Sunday, November 19. This marks the 12th trip to the NCAA Championship for FIU.

Memphis (10-5-2) claimed the final bid for The American and will host SIUE (16-0-3) for a first-round match on Thursday, November 16. The winner will advance to Chapel Hill, North Carolina to take on No. 3 seed North Carolina (10-3-6) on Sunday, November 19. The Tigers will make their fourth trip to the NCAA Championship.
