About Texas A&M
Texas A&M is unbeaten in their last six matches. The unbeaten stretch began with a 1-0 home win versus Rice and includes wins at then No. 20 Mississippi (2-1) and versus Auburn (3-1) and three ties – at then No. 21 South Carolina (1-1) and versus LSU (2-2) and Missouri (1-1). The next win is No. 500 for TAMU’s G Guerrier in his 32-season career.
Texas A&M comes to Gainesville looking for a win or tie to stay among the 10 teams advancing to the SEC Tournament, which makes its first appearance in Pensacola, Fla., in 2022<https://www.secsports.com/championship/soccer>. The Aggies and Missouri enter Thursday’s regular-season finale tied with nine points and TAMU currently wins the tie breaker for the 10th and final SEC Tournament spot based on the third tie-breaker (goal differential versus common opponents). The Aggies missed the SEC Tournament for the first time in 2021 since joining the league in 2012 after tying UF and Mississippi State for the 10th spot (UF advanced based on the third tie breaker).
Sophomore Maile Hayes leads TAMU this season with seven goals, which is tied for No. 5 among the SEC scorers. Kate Colvin & Mia Pante are tied for sixth in the league with seven assists each.
Series Record: Texas A&M leads 8-9. Last meeting, Texas A&M won 2-1 on Oct. 11, 2020 in Bryan-College Station, Texas
Last Time Out:
Florida lost 2-0 at No. 3 Alabama Sunday evening. The win clinched the Tide’s first SEC regular-season title.
It was Alabama’s Senior Day and both goals came off the foot of a Tide senior. The Tide got on the board in the 27th minute when Kat Rogers scored her first goal of the season off a right-footed 16-yard strike to the near post. Riley Tanner opened the second half scoring in the 49th minute. She moved across the top of the box before hitting a shot to the far post corner.
Coach Bohon Post-Match Comments:
“We wanted as a staff and team to be organized defensively. We played in a more of a lower block than we played most of our season just to try to keep them in front of us and to make it difficult to break through. Thought our team did a really good job of executing that formation. Two good individual plays by Alabama players really was the difference in tonight’s game. We created what I would consider five good scoring chances against one of the nation’s top-ranked teams.
“We are pleased with the execution, effort and the competitive fire shown by our players so late in the season. I’m really proud of our group and I think they walked away from the field knowing that they represented the University of Florida well tonight.” – Florida Head Coach Samantha Bohon
