JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Florida and North Florida women’s soccer teams closed pre-season exhibition play with a 0-0 tie Saturday evening at Hodges Stadium.
The match was played in three 30-minute periods. The Gators outshot the Ospreys 8-1 and also held a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The scoring chances were there. Now Florida soccer looks to turn those opportunities into goals as the team looks to Thursday’s home opener versus East Carolina.
Florida Coach Samantha Bohon said:
“I thought actually both games but this one in particular to play 90 minutes and limit a team to one shot for 90 minutes is really impressive. So we were very actually happy with our team defense. It wasn’t just the backline although they were fantastic. I actually thought our back defensive presence was significantly better from last game to this game, starting all the way up at the top. So there’s a lot of really positive takeaways.
“Our team is learning is what we’ve been saying – it’s hard to score goals. We had a bunch of corners and I thought we should have capitalized on two or three of them. We worked the ball endline so we’re just looking for that final piece. Some of these things are typical with a new group but we can’t settle for that. Good enough is not good enough for us.
“We’re going to continue to keep pushing our standard and getting ready for our big opener Thursday at The Diz. We’d love to have the Florida fan base come out because these girls are gonna work hard for you. Go Gators!
