GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Collegiate regional championship gymnastics competition returns to the University of Florida. The Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center plays host to the NCAA Gymnastics Regional Championships in 2028.
Today’s reveal was part of the NCAA championship bid process, spanning 90 championships across a two-year cycle.<https://www.ncaa.com/news/ncaa/article/2024-10-02/ncaa-announces-more-240-host-site-selections> The regional sites for 2027 and 2028 NCAA gymnastics competition were part of today’s announcement. Fort Worth, Texas remains as the site for the 2027 NCAA Championships, with the 2028 final site to be announced at a later date.
This will be the 15th NCAA Regional held in the O’Connell Center. Florida almost doubled any other regional site with a three-day attendance total of 15,693 in 2024. Nine teams will vie for a top-two regional finish to advance to the 2028 NCAA Championships. UF won the last five NCAA Regional titles held in Gainesville (2005, 2008, 2013, 2017, 2024).
“This is terrific news that NCAA Regional action is returning to Gainesville in 2028,” Florida Head Coach Jenny Rowland said. “It was a great experience for our team to play host to regionals this past season and Gator fans turned out with almost double the attendance of any other region site. This is an opportunity for gymnastics fans to cheer some of the nation’s top gymnasts as they compete for a national championship berth.”
