IRVING, Texas – The Florida Atlantic Owls and South Florida softball teams will represent the American Athletic Conference in the 2025 NCAA Softball Regionals as both heard their names called during the NCAA Selection Show on Sunday.
Florida Atlantic will travel to Gainesville, Florida to take on Georgia Tech in the NCAA Gainesville Regional on May 16 at 2 p.m. ET. South Florida will take on Auburn in the NCAA Tallahassee Regional on May 16 at noon ET. Each of the 16 NCAA Regional sites feature four teams competing in a double-elimination tournament, with the top-16 advancing to best 2-out-3 series at the highest remaining seeds in the NCAA Super Regionals. The final eight teams will qualify for the 2025 Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City.
Teams from The American have now reached the NCAA Regional round a combined 26 times since the conference was reconstituted prior to the 2014 season. The 2025 NCAA Championship marks the ninth time in 11 seasons that multiple American teams have earned a bid to NCAA Regionals. American squads are 35-51 in previous NCAA tournament appearances.
South Florida (43-14-1) is headed to earning The American’s automatic bid after winning the programs first conference tournament championship. South Florida overcame a four-run deficit in the American Softball Championship to defeat North Texas 5-4. The Bulls will make their 17th NCAA appearance and first since 2022.
Florida Atlantic (44-10) will make its 13th NCAA Regional appearance in program history and second straight appearance. Led by The American Coaching Staff of the Year, head coach Jordan Clark guided the Owls to an outright American regular season championship – their second straight regular season title.
