GULF SHORES, Ala. – The No. 12 Florida Atlantic beach volleyball team will make its second-ever NCAA Championship appearance as the Sandy Owls compete in the 2023 NCAA Women’s Beach Volleyball Championship on May 5-7 in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
The Sandy Owls will face off against the No. 5 LSU Tigers in the opening round on Friday, May 5 for a 1 p.m. ET first serve.
The national championship field was selected from the 92 NCAA member institutions that sponsor beach volleyball. Nine teams received automatic qualification as conference champions, while eight teams received at-large bids.
Conferences awarded an automatic qualification include ASUN Conference, Big West Conference., Coastal Collegiate Sports Association, Conference USA, Ohio Valley Conference, PAC-12 Conference, Southland Conference, Sun Belt Conference, and the West Coast Conference.
The opening round of the championship will be held on Wednesday, May 3 with the 16 and 17 seeds facing off in a play-in matchup to play against the top-seed. The remaining 16 seeds will compete in a single elimination bracket on May 5-7. The first round will take place on May 5, the quarterfinals and semifinals on May 6, and the national championship on May 7.
The national championship will be televised live on the ESPN networks. The opening round will be broadcast on ESPNU, while the quarterfinals and semifinals will be broadcast on ESPN2. The national championship will be broadcast on ESPN.
