Florida Atlantic Hosts Three-Game Set Against FIU

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The home stretch of the 2023 season for the Florida Atlantic University softball team is here. The Owls only have 15 regular-season games remaining with only nine more at home. Florida Atlantic plays host to in-state foe FIU for a three-game set beginning on Thursday, April 6.

NEWS AND NOTES

  • The Owls are coming off a series win against Middle Tennessee last weekend, in which they took two games to one. In the rubber game, FAU took a 12-inning 3-2 final score, in part to Zoey Jones’ game-winning home run in the 12th inning
  • For her efforts, Jones was rewarded with Conference USA Player of the Week honors. Jones went 4-13 (.307) with four RBI across the three-game set
  • In game one against the Blue Raiders, the Owl bats exploded for a season-high four home runs, with one each coming from Olivia PetersonJesiana MoraRiley Ennis & Sommer Baker. The Owls scored 10 runs on 10 hits in the 10-4 victory
  • The Owls’ go-to arm in the circle has been Gabby Sacco. The sophomore right-hander is 13-3, which ties her for the C-USA lead in wins
  • Sacco also ranks third in the conference in ERA (1.56) fourth in batting average against (.203) and fifth in strikeouts (65). She went the full 12 innings in the marathon win against Middle Tennessee for her eighth complete game of the year
  • The Owls have held the upper hand against the Panthers in the Sunshine State Series, with a 60-41 edge all-time
  • FAU took the three-game set, 2-1 last year
  • Cammeo Presutti has been a table setter at the top of the Owls’ lineup, hitting a team-leading .358. Presutti also leads the Owls in multi-hit games with 13
  • Olivia Peterson has been a run producer, leading the team in RBI with 25 to go with four homers, which is tied with Riley Ennis for the team lead
  • Boca Raton has presented an advantage to the Owls, as they are 15-6 at home this season
