LEXINGTON, Ky. – Florida Atlantic Beach Volleyball was honored on Thursday with the 2023 USMC-AVCA Team Academic Award for the team’s academic excellence during the 2022-23 academic year.
“Our team deserves to be recognized for this award,” expressed head coach Steve Grotowski. “They are a bright and hardworking group of young women! I can’t thank them enough for representing our team and Florida Atlantic at such a high level!”
The Sandy Owls are one of 66 collegiate beach programs to be recognized and finished the 2022-23 academic season with an impressive 3.563 team cumulative GPA. Florida Atlantic is one of 1,333 total collegiate and high school programs recognized, marking a record number of programs honored by the AVCA for their academic achievements.
“The commitment our coaches make to help their student-athletes pursue the best versions of themselves is evident in the academic accomplishments highlighted today.” said AVCA CEO Jaime Gordon. “Achievement on the court has always been closely tied to success in the classroom which is reflected by the number of championship programs honored.”
During the 2023 season, the Sandy Owls captured their second-ever conference title and first C-USA championship, in addition to earning the program’s second-ever NCAA postseason appearance at the 2023 NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship.
