MIAMI (Oct. 14, 2020) – Redshirt senior Shane McGough was named to the Rimington Trophy Watch List on Wednesday afternoon, as the Panther was recognized as one of the best centers in the nation.
McGough, a 6-2, 302-pound offensive lineman from Tampa, Florida, has played in nearly 40 games at FIU. The redshirt senior made the move to center last season, anchoring an offensive line that gave up just 14 sacks on the year. That total was tied for the fifth-lowest in the nation and topped Conference USA.
The Rimington Trophy is presented annually to the most outstanding center in NCAA Division I College Football. Since its inception, the award has raised over $4.5 million for the Boomer Esiason Foundation, which is committed to finding a cure for cystic fibrosis.
McGough and the Panthers hit the road for the second time this season, as FIU takes on Charlotte this Saturday. Kickoff is slated for 8 p.m. ET and the game will be televised on ESPNU.
