MIAMI (Oct. 26, 2020) – The Augusta Sports Council and the Ray Guy Award announced Ray’s 4 for Week 8 on Monday afternoon, with FIU football’s Tommy Heatherly earning the distinction as one of the best punters from this past weekend.
Heatherly joins Georgia Tech’s Pressley Harvin III, Texas Tech’s Austin McNamara and WKU’s John Haggerty on the list. The Punter of the Week will be announced on Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 10 a.m. ET. Fans can visit the Ray Guy Award Instagram and Twitter to find the voting link for who they think should become the Punter of the Week this week.
Heatherly boomed five punts this past Friday, with an average of 49.0 yards per kick and a long of 69. Heatherly has earned a 43.8 average for the year, which ranks 25th overall in the nation. The senior from Oklahoma has also pinned four punts inside the 20, while booming four over 50 yards.
The great punting from Heatherly has also led to the Panthers ranking first in the nation for punt return defense. FIU has allowed an impressive -3.67 yards per return this year.
