GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida’s Kayla DiCello claims a share of her fifth consecutive and seventh overall Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week honor after last Friday’s performance at No. 1 Oklahoma.
Seven Freshman of the Week honors sets the league high season total, just one past teammate Trinity Thomas’ record (6) achieved in 2019. The previous high for consecutive honors was turned in by LSU’s Kiya Johnson with four consecutive honors in 2020.
DiCello’s been honored in eight of the nine SEC weekly awards of 2023. In addition to her seven Freshman of the Week honors, DiCello was the Week 2 Specialist of the Week. She shares this week’s award with Georgia’s Naya Howard.
Kayla DiCello – SEC Freshman of the Week:
* Set collegiate vault best (9.95) to share second at No. 1 Oklahoma
* 9.95 equals high score by a SEC freshman last weekend across the four events
* Raised vault best from 9.90 earned on two earlier occasions
* Also scored 9.85 on both uneven bars and balance beam
* In March 6 Road to National ranking, No. T6 balance beam (9.940 NQS), No. 11 all-around (39.55 NQS), No. 13 uneven bars (9.930 NQS)
