| 8/2/2024 | Football BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic’s football team returned to the practice fields for the third preseason practice under clear South Florida skies. Still, with your eyes closed, the sound of players running mimicked the sound of walking rain-drenched shoes.Still working through the helmet acclimation period, the primary evaluation is effort. The “team sessions” were scripted with reps for the ones, twos, and threes. Their post-practice message was simple: Work until the double whistle as if every play was fourth-down and inches. QUOTABLE Offensive Coordinator/QB Coach Charlie Frye On how camp has gone thus far “Our kids have really put a lot of work in the summer, especially in the month of July when they were responsible for running the OTAs, running the meetings, player-led stuff. You can tell there was a lot of work done. There are a lot of new faces. One of the keys to success in this game is gelling together, the comradery of getting to know your brother, and a lot of that is taking place in the summer. So, we were able to get the ground running at a pretty good clip on the first day.” On how the returning coaching staff speeds up the process of fall camp “Definitely for the guys that were here last year. For the new faces that we have, it’s year one for those guys. They say in the NFL the biggest jump for a quarterback is from year one to year two. That’s just him being able to go through the same system and growing, learning, seeing the looks, and making the checks. For the guys that were here last year, you’re not starting at ground zero.”Redshirt Senior Wide Receiver Milan Tucker On his first fall camp with Florida Atlantic “It’s fun to be out there with the guys. I’m definitely getting back in the groove of things. The Florida heat is a little different, but it’s exciting. I’m trying to get back in the groove of playing with pads on. It’s not summer workouts or spring ball anymore; it’s time to go. You can feel it. It’s in the air. Everybody’s excited and focused, just trying to keep pushing right now.” On being a ‘quarterback friendly’ wide receiver “The aspect of me coming from the defensive side, knowing where they are supposed to be and hopefully manipulating them in a way where they are out of position, helps the quarterback know. When you’re out there, you’re playing super fast.
