7/19/2024 | Football BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic’s Jacob Merrifield, a junior defensive lineman, has been named to the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy and AFCA Good Works Team Watch List as announced on Wednesday. Merrifield, a 2023 team captain as a sophomore, saw action in each of the squad’s 12 games despite a nagging injury much of the year. The Georgia native recorded 14 tackles, including one for a yard loss. He was also a key member of the punt unit. The watch list comprises 178 nominees representing players and coaches from colleges and universities nationwide (107 at the FBS level). THE AWARD About the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team was established in 1992 by the College Football Association, recognizing the extra efforts made by college football players and student support staff off the field. AFCA became the governing body of the award in 1997 and continues to honor college football players who go the extra mile for those in need. Allstate worked to present the award starting with the 2008 season.
