fb | Important Scrimmage on Tape, Spring Game One Week Away

4/6/2024 | Football

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic’s football players gathered on Saturday morning with one mission: to put the best two-hour tape together as possible. The scrimmage gave the players an opportunity to truly vie for a spot on the fall two-deep, knowing that come August the focus will shift to game preparation. At the end of the day, the offense captured the day by a score of 23-19.
COMPLETE ROSTER
SPRING GAME
The Owls will conclude the 2024 spring practice season with a spring game slated for Saturday, Apr. 13 at noon. The game will be played in FAU Stadium.
QUOTABLE
Hagerty Family Football Head Coach Tom Herman
On the importance of this scrimmage
“I told the guys out there coming into this that this is a really important scrimmage. The spring game is what it is and then we don’t see them playing football until August. You got a good seven to 10 practices in training camp, you always have to give those newcomers that show up in May a good shot, but after the 10th practice of training camp, your depth chart is pretty set going into the season and it is really hard for a guy to make depth chart moves in the season without an injury to a guy ahead of him. For the guys that are here, this scrimmage is so important because at the end of the day, today was the last one they will have in this format until training camp. I thought the effort level was great. The defense took the lead, the offense started slow and then put some points on the board there late in the scrimmage and picked up a few first downs. They responded well. I thought it was very evenly matched, it came down to the last 10 or 15 plays or so which is what you want in a scrimmage.”
Redshirt Junior Quarterback Cam Fincher
On his progress this spring
“I have been taking it day by day, just trying to grow and be my best self every day. From the start, it was a lot of learning, a lot of new stuff, but a lot of stuff I was familiar. Growing every day was my mindset and what I have been trying to do during this transition.”
On the key to bringing success to the team
“Having everybody focus on their job, not trying to worry about the guy next to him and just trust that they are going to do their job. When 11 guys on the field do that, you are going to have successful plays.”
Graduate Wide Receiver Marlyn Johnson
On his arrival to Florida Atlantic
“Just getting adjusted coming from Buffalo is a big change weather wise. What I have enjoyed these past few months that I have been out here so far is being able to form bonds with the guys, enjoy the good weather when I can and being able to just stack good days on top of each other and become a better football player.”
On getting on the same page with the offense
“Compared to day one, there was a lot of flying parts, lot of new guys. I feel like compared to now, everyone is getting more comfortable with their positions and roles. The offense is starting to head in a positive direction.”
Graduate Linebacker Desmond Tisdol
On the progress this spring
“The first practice we were dusting off the rust coming off a 4-8 season. To this point now, we are moving faster. The older guys are stepping up and showing the younger guys the lead and doing the correct things on the field and off the field, just to show the younger guys that we have an older group and a more of a veteran group than last year and we want to win this year, compete for a conference championship.”
On being a leader in the LB room
“We just put our heads down and keep working. We have four seniors, four strong linebackers and the rest of the younger guys, we are showing the younger guys the ways to step up when it is their time to get in the game and accomplish their goals and dreams here at FAU.”
