BOCA RATON, Fla. – Coming off two straight American Conference wins, Florida Atlantic football is set for a road matchup against No. 19 South Florida. The game will kick off at 7 p.m. and will air on ESPNU.
Hagerty Family Head Football Coach Zach Kittley‘s aggressive Air Raid offense is on full display. The ball is in the hands of redshirt junior QB Caden Veltkamp, who leads the nation in completions per game (27.3) and the American Conference in completion percentage (65.1%), passing yards (1,781), and touchdowns (14). His connection with redshirt junior WR Easton Messer, who arrived in Paradise with Veltkamp in January from their previous school, has continued to flourish with the wideout at the top of the NCAA in receptions per game (8.7).
The defense has been swarming to the line of scrimmage and has recorded at least five tackles for loss in its first six games, the first Owl unit to do so since 2019. They logged a season high five sacks in their 53-33 win over UAB with captain redshirt junior DL C.J. Doggette Jr. recording two, the first Owl to do so since 2023.
Redshirt junior WR Jayshon Platt has served as a do-it-all weapon, making contributions in the receiving and rushing attack as well as special teams, where his kick return average ranks second in the American. Against UAB, he recorded 203 all-purpose yards, with 119 coming off kick returns. His 50-yard return on a kickoff was the Owls’ longest since 2018. He has hauled in 327 receiving yards with two touchdowns and has added a score on the ground with an average of 12 yards on his three carries.
Platt is 16th in the nation in all-purpose yards and Messer is 40th. They are one of just two teams with two players in the top 40 alongside Notre Dame.
