BOCA RATON, Fla. – Maya Amm delivered a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the FAU softball team over Michigan State, 2-1.
The walk-off win punctuated a pair of wild games for FAU in Friday’s action. The Owls trailed the Spartans 1-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh yet rallied to pull out the win. FAU dropped game one to Columbia, 7-5, in eight innings, but rallied to tie the game with three in the bottom of the seventh.
Against the Spartans, the Owls were scoreless heading into their last at bats. Riley Ennis put the ball in play and reached on an error, then was pinch ran for by Maddie Carlock. Zoey Jones, the next batter, ripped a clutch triple to the right-center field gap. Carlock motored from first to score as Jones slid headfirst into third.
The next batter was Maya Amm, who delivered the game-winning heroics. Amm tapped one that went down the third base line. The ball hopped directly over the bag, just staying fair, to score pinch runner Cammeo Presutti and give FAU the walk-off win.
Amm came through in the clutch in game one as well. In the seventh against Columbia, FAU trailed 4-1, then Ennis hit an RBI blooper to right field. Amm knocked a two-RBI single up the middle to tie the game. Columbia pushed over three in the top of the eighth and was able to hang onto the extra-inning win.
