BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University football team will honor the legendary Howard Schnellenberger, the program’s founder and inaugural head coach, in several ways during the 2021 season.
On Saturday, Sept. 4, when the Owls travel to UF for their season opener, the FAU uniforms will don a patch on the left shoulder. It is in the shape of a football with Schnellenberger’s name, along with 1934-2021, as well as a saying that the Kentucky native lived by: “To Believe is to Be Strong.”
Along with the jersey patch, FAU’s helmet will sport a decal on the center back that is a drawing of Coach hoisted atop the shoulders of the 2007 squad following the Owls’ victory over Memphis in the New Orleans Bowl.
