BOCA RATON, Fla. – Friday night was a very successful night for the Florida Atlantic University women’s soccer team. The Owls blew out UTEP by a final score of 6-0 to earn a big three Conference USA points. The six goals are the most by FAU in a single game since Aug. 25, 2019, when the Owls defeated Grand Canyon 7-1.
Prior to the blowout win, the Owls honored their nine senior members in Thelma Hermannsdottir, Hailey Landrus, Bri Austin, Gabi Cimino, Amanda Martin, Gi Krstec, Luisa Daikeler, Amber Tam and Hunter Koziara with a Senior Night ceremony. This class has been a part of 45 wins over the last five years, including the regular season Conference USA Championships in 2018 and 2019.
Hermannsdottir led the offensive outburst with a hat trick. Hermannsdottir is the first Owl with a hat trick since 2021 graduate Miracle Porter in that Grand Canyon game in 2019. She joins a long list of Owls for the third-most goals scored in a single game in program history.
QUOTES FROM THE OWLS
“We have rarely done what we did tonight,” FAU head coach Patrick Baker said. “It was great to see us come out like that tonight; we had a great crowd for Senior Night. We played really well, we scored early, then it was 2-0 at halftime. I asked the girls ‘would you be happy with just a 2-0 lead, or would you like to make a statement?’ They said they wanted to make a statement, and that’s exactly what they did. I couldn’t be happier for our team, we got everybody on tonight, the seniors were fantastic, and we got to finish the game with all nine seniors that were celebrated tonight.”
“We had been training all week, this was the first time we only had one game in a week,” Landrus said. “We had a lot of extra preparation and time to get ready for this game, I think it really helped us. The team was just ready to score goals, and I think everybody was ready to play.”
