FAU Drops Road Contest to UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Florida Atlantic University women’s soccer team was defeated by UAB on Sunday by a final score of 1-0. The Owls dip to 5-4-3 with the loss and 1-1-1 in Conference USA play, while the first place Blazers now stand at 6-2-2 and 3-0-0 in C-USA.

UAB took an early lead in the 13th minute, when Carlyn Presley tallied her fifth goal of the year off a corner kick. The Blazers’ defense kept the Owl offense in check, as FAU’s three shots all came in the second half.

QUOTES FROM THE OWLS

“First of all, congratulations to Erica (Demers) and her girls, they did a nice job today, they are having a wonderful season,” FAU head coach Patrick Baker said. “We knew that coming in and unfortunately, we weren’t very good today, especially in the first half. In other parts of the second half, it was a lot of the same, although we created some good chances. We gave up a corner kick goal, we had a chance on a corner kick at their end, then they countered and flipped the field, and one corner kick led to another corner kick that led to their goal. The second half was better, I thought Kaylin (Johnston) had the best chance one on one with the keeper, but she made a great save. We’ve got a short turnaround playing Rice and Charlotte this week, but that’s life in conference play. We had a really good week last week with Kansas and North Texas, and now we have to recover and have a good session on Tuesday.”
