OWLS IN REVIEW
The Owls earned a season sweep of UCF with a 4-2 victory on Tuesday. The FAU bullpen delivered one of its best performances of the season with eight shutout innings in relief. Armando Albert delivered RBI singles in back-to-back innings to first tie the game and then give the Owls the lead. Dylan Goldstein gave the Owls an insurance run with an RBI double in the seventh. C.J. Williams closed out the eighth and ninth as the sixth relief pitcher of the night to earn the save
WHO’S HOT
- Goldstein enters the weekend on a 12-game hitting streak.
- Nolan Schanuel has reached base in 21 straight games and continues to lead the Owls in nearly every offensive category including stolen bases (8-for-8).
THE OPPONENT
Through the first 25 games of 2023, the Rice Owls have taken a big step forward after missing the C-USA tournament last season. At 13-12 under second year head coach, Jose Cruz Jr. Rice has nearly matched its win total from 2022 (17).
The Owls are led offensively by graduate senior Drew Holderbach (.316 average) and junior Pierce Gallo (.315). On the pitching side, Rice has not named a rotation for the weekend yet but expect to see righty Parker Smith on Friday. The 230 lb. sophomore went 6.1 last Friday against UTSA and allowed two earned runs. His season ERA sits at 2.18.
OPPONENT HISTORY
FAU swept Rice last season in Houston and has won the last eight meetings between the two sides. The all-time series is tied 13-13-1.
UPCOMING
The Owls will face No. 16 Florida Gulf Coast for the first time at home on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
