IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the pairings and destinations for its eight bowl-eligible teams for college football’s 2024 Bowl Season.
The American’s opponents in Bowl Season will include two SEC teams, an ACC team and a Big 12 team as well as a Mountain West squad, and three Sun Belt teams, including the SBC champion.
Army (11-1), which was ranked No. 22 in the final College Football Playoff rankings of the season after winning its first American Athletic Conference title last Friday, will face Sun Belt champion Marshall (10-3) Dec. 28 in the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Army will make its 11th bowl appearance, its second trip to the Independence Bowl and its first trip to Shreveport since 1996. The Black Knights are 7-3 in bowl games and have won five of their last six. It will be the third meeting between Army and a 10-win Marshall team that will bring a seven-game winning streak into Bowl Season. The matchup will be the first meeting between conference champions in the Independence Bowl since 1976.
Memphis (10-2), which is ranked No. 25 in the final College Football Playoff rankings, will head to the Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl Dec. 17 at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas, where the Tigers will face West Virginia. Memphis is bowl-eligible for the 11th consecutive season – the seventh-longest active streak nationally – and will make its 15th appearance in Bowl Season. It will be the first meeting between Memphis and West Virginia.
Tulane (9-4) will make its 17th bowl appearance as the Green Wave plays in Bowl Season for the sixth time in seven years with this year’s trip to the Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl against Florida (7-5). It will be Tulane’s first appearance in the Gasparilla Bowl, which is played at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa. Tulane and Florida have played 21 times previously and will meet for the first time since 1984.
Navy (8-3) returns to Bowl Season for the first time since 2019 as the Midshipmen face Oklahoma (6-6) in the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl Dec. 27 at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas. It will be Navy’s third appearance in the Armed Forces Bowl and its 25th bowl appearance overall as the Midshipmen have won five of their last six bowl games. The only previous meeting between the Midshipmen and Sooners was in 1965, when Navy scored a 10-0 win.
East Carolina (7-5) returns to Bowl Season for the 19th time as the Pirates await a Dec. 28 matchup against NC State in the Go Bowling Military Bowl at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland. East Carolina, which won four of its last five games to close the regular season, previously played in the Military Bowl in 2010 and will face the Wolfpack for the 33rd meeting between the in-state rivals.
South Florida (6-6) will make its second straight bowl appearance as the Bulls head to the Hawai’i Bowl for a Christmas Eve matchup against San Jose State (7-5). South Florida will make its 12th appearance in Bowl Season as the Bulls look for their eighth postseason win. South Florida and San Jose State will meet for just the second time overall and the first time since 2017.
UTSA (6-6) will make its sixth bowl appearance in program history when the Roadrunners face Coastal Carolina (6-6) in the Myrtle Beach Bowl at the Chanticleers’ Brooks Stadium in Conway, South Carolina. It will be the first meeting between the programs as the Roadrunners look for a second consecutive bowl victory.
North Texas (6-6) will make the short road trip to Dallas for its bowl destination as the Mean Green faces Texas State in the SERVPRO First Responder Bowl Jan. 3 at Gerald J. Ford Stadium.
