DETROIT TRADITION CONTINUES: LIONS AND FORD ANNOUNCE EXTENSION OF FORD FIELD PARTNERSHIP THROUGH 2036 SEASON

DETROIT – The Detroit Lions and Ford Motor Company today announced they are extending the stadium naming rights agreement for one of the most recognizable partnerships of its kind in sports. Ford Field has been the home of the Detroit Lions since 2002, making it the second longest tenured naming rights partnership in the NFL.

The multiyear agreement ensures the name of the building will continue as will the investment from both organizations in downtown Detroit.

“Renewing our relationship with Ford Motor Company has always been a top priority for us,” said Detroit Lions President and CEO Rod Wood. “Ford was an integral partner in our move back to downtown Detroit in 2002 and continues to be valuable to the growth of our brand. We are proud to have an iconic, Detroit founded company’s name on our building for the foreseeable future.”

“Ford and the Lions are perfect partners – two iconic organizations that are both deeply rooted in Detroit,” said Jim Farley, Ford president and CEO. “Ever since Bill Ford spearheaded bringing Ford Field downtown, this stadium has helped drive Detroit’s comeback and hosted some of the biggest events in sports and entertainment. And just like our hometown, our Ford and Lions teams are defined by hard work and grit. So, we couldn’t be prouder to have the Lions and their fans keep calling their home ‘Ford Field.’”

Since 2002, Ford Field has established itself as a premier sports and entertainment venue in the Midwest. Hosting Super Bowl XL in 2006, the NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four in 2009, and the NCAA Frozen Four in 2010 helped solidify the venue’s importance to the region. Ford Field has already been awarded the 2027 NCAA Men’s Final Four and is in the running for other national and international events, confirming that it will continue to be a key venue for large scale sporting events.

The iconic downtown venue has also hosted record breaking world tours by artists such as Taylor Swift, Kenny Chesney, The Rolling Stones, Eminem, Kid Rock and Garth Brooks. In 2023, Kenny Chesney broke Ford Field’s concert attendance record by hosting 560,000 attendees across twelve performances in downtown Detroit. The stadium has already booked AC/DC, Post Malone, The Weeknd, Kendrick Lamar featuring SZA, Chris Brown, Billy Joel and Stevie Nicks, as well as the Michigan State versus Maryland college football game for the 2025 calendar.

Since opening its doors in 2002, Ford Field has hosted more than 30 million visitors.
