DETROIT, Mich. (June 26, 2025) – The Detroit Pistons announced that the club has selected guard Chaz Lanier with the No. 37 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.

Lanier, 6-4, 206, averaged 18.0 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists while shooting 43.1% from the field and 39.5% from 3-point range across 38 games for the University of Tennessee last season. Named the 2024-25 Jerry West Award Winner, given annually to the nation’s best shooting guard, Lanier finished his five-year collegiate career shooting 40.2% from 3-point range after playing his first four seasons for the University of North Florida.

A native of Nashville, Tenn., Lanier led the Southeastern Conference in 3-pointers (123), ranked fourth in 3-point percentage (.395) and was the conference’s third leading scorer with 684 points in his lone season with the Volunteers. Lanier was named 2024-25 SEC Newcomer of the Year and All-SEC First Team. He was selected 2023-24 All-A-Sun First Team for North Florida after averaging 19.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists on 44% shooting from 3-point range.

Lanier is the second Volunteer chosen by the Pistons following the program’s all-time leading scorer, Allan Houston, who went No. 11 overall in 1993. Lanier’s father, Thomas Lanier, played college basketball at Lipscomb University where he scored 1,247 points for the Bison from 1992-96 and his mother Stacey played collegiately at Alcorn State in 1988-89.
