Detroit Grand Prix Delivers Record Results in 2025

With Thrilling Racing, Increased Attendance, Viewership and Social Media Metrics,
Event Delivers Top Totals Since Its Return to Downtown Detroit

DETROIT, Mich. (June 10, 2025) – Following an action-packed weekend of racing, music and family fun on the Streets of Downtown Detroit, the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear delivered impressive returns. The May 30-June 1 motorsports festival in the heart of the Motor City produced its best results since the event returned to Downtown Detroit, establishing new highs in attendance, viewership and social media engagement.

In its third consecutive year hosted on the city street circuit, the Grand Prix attracted approximately 156,000 people to Downtown Detroit over the three-day weekend, representing a 4% increase in total attendance from both 2023 and 2024. With packed grandstands and fans filling the rooftop viewing decks and the garages surrounding the venue, the Grand Prix’s overall ticket revenue also increased by approximately 10% in 2025.

With great action on track, this summer’s Detroit Grand Prix drew its highest viewership since 2021. According to Nielsen ratings, the NTT INDYCAR SERIES race broadcast from Detroit on Sunday, June 1 delivered an average audience of 1.061 million viewers across the FOX network and FOX streaming services, which represented a 75% increase from the 2024 race broadcast, which aired on the USA network. It marked the third-highest rated NTT INDYCAR SERIES race this season behind only the Indianapolis 500 and the season opener in St. Petersburg. The Detroit race broadcast was viewed by more adults ages 18-34 than any other series race outside of the Indy 500 this year.

For the second consecutive year, Detroit also ranked as the top local market across the United States for Sunday’s NTT INDYCAR SERIES race broadcast drawing a 3.04 rating and a 14.25 share on FOX 2 Detroit.

Fans watching the racing action in person or at home witnessed one of the most entertaining and competitive Detroit Grand Prix events in recent history. Both Sunday’s Chevrolet INDYCAR Grand Prix and Saturday’s Chevrolet Sports Car Classic, featuring the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, were highlighted by ample passing and dramatic battles on the nine-turn, 1.7-mile street circuit in Downtown Detroit.

Saturday’s 100-minute sports car race included a pair of passes for the lead over the final 15 minutes that kept fans on the edge of their seat. The No. 93 Acura ARX-06, driven by Renger van der Zande and Nick Yelloly, passed the No. 10 Cadillac V-Series.R driven by Ricky Taylor and Filipe Albuquerque with just three minutes remaining to claim the overall and GTP Class victory. In the GTD PRO Class, it came down to battle of Detroit muscle. After a hard fought race, drivers Mike Rockenfeller and Sebastian Priaulx raced the No. 64 Ford Mustang GT3 to victory over the No. 3 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R driven by Antonio Garcia and Alexander Sims.

On Sunday, talented rookie racer and INDY NXT by Firestone championship leader Dennis Hauger produced his fourth series win in five races this season as he led all 45 laps in the No. 28 car for the Andretti Global team.

The final race of the weekend delivered the most excitement as Kyle Kirkwood scored his fourth career NTT INDYCAR SERIES victory by holding off some tough competition over the final 21 laps. Despite a damaged front wing, Kirkwood drove the Andretti Global No. 27 Honda to the win over the No. 14 Chevrolet driven by Santino Ferrucci and the No. 26 Honda piloted by Colton Herta. It marked the first all-American NTT INDYCAR SERIES podium since the 2020 season. The 100-lap race could go down as the most competitive among all 35 Grand Prix events in Detroit’s history. Last Sunday’s race featured 261 on-track passes, the most since the event transitioned to the Downtown Detroit street circuit in 2023. The record results included 181 passes for position – a Detroit Grand Prix record (including all INDYCAR races hosted on both the Belle Isle track as well as the Streets of Detroit circuit). Both the 261 on-track passes and the 181 passes for position rank as the most on an INDYCAR street circuit since the series race on the Streets of Nashville in 2022.

Social media metrics for the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear were also at an all-time high in 2025. The total social media reach for the Detroit Grand Prix reached an incredible 38 million over the course of race week (this includes not only Grand Prix social channels but all mentions of the event across all social platforms). With significant year-over-year increases in likes, plays, shares and reactions, the Detroit Grand Prix social channels (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter/X, YouTube, TikTok and LinkedIn) delivered a direct reach of 1,068,074, which represented an increase of 140.68% from 2024.

INDYCAR online video views nearly eclipsed the 11 million mark during the Detroit Grand Prix, representing a 4.7% increase over last season’s race weekend in the Motor City. INDYCAR also reported a strong weekend for engagement on the INDYCAR mobile app with impressive year-over-year gains in total users, a surge in app downloads and race day app usage up by nearly 62% from 2024.

“What an amazing weekend at the 2025 Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear,” said Michael Montri, President of the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear. “We have to thank all of our fans, the competitors, our 93 event partners and our more than 1,200 volunteers for delivering a weekend to remember on the Streets of Downtown Detroit. From the incredible racing on track to the packed grandstands to the impressive viewership and record social media coverage, it was truly a special weekend for Detroit to shine.”

The Grand Prix also continued its community giveback efforts in a big way in 2025. The annual PwC Grand Prixmiere presented by Chevrolet, in its 11th year as the official fundraising event for the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear, produced record results for the event’s identified charitable causes. Hosted on Friday evening, May 30 at the new Hudson’s Detroit in the heart of downtown, the Grand Prixmiere raised nearly $1.8 million for five Detroit-area organizations. Through Grand Prixmiere donations, as well as some unique auction items and experiences, funds were raised to benefit the Belle Isle Conservancy, Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan, Detroit Public Safety Foundation, Detroit 300 Conservancy and the Pope Francis Center in Detroit. Since 2014, the PwC Grand Prixmiere presented by Chevrolet has helped raise nearly $10 million for local charities.
