So I received my press credentials at 4 pm Thursday April 25th, 2024. Walking into the media room for the first time was an honor. After a 9 hour wait the last of the 11-day draftees came to the press room. I was there and made my question heard. But on those 9 hours made some valuable connections for my future with the media and my podcast. Meeting several people around the league that do the same things as me. Sports Journalist, and podcasters.
One of whom was Troy Geary of the Geary and Stein show on Roku. Give that guy a watch. Great contact to have and very knowledgeable.
The one that made my day. Long time FB Friend and Lions beat writer Jeff Risdon. We talked about the trade up. Caught up on personal lives. Then parted ways.
After listening to Darius Robinson of Missouri, I heard exactly why the coach was interested in that young man. Was hoping to have him land in the 2nd. But Arizona grabbed him with the pick they acquired last year from Houston. Great pick up for them.
Then at 1 am, with only a few questions to be asked, because there is only about 5 minutes there with a plethora of media members. Terrion Arnold walks in. The casual questions of his support group, how he feels about rejoining Brian Branch. And the reaction by the crowd.
I decided a different route. “Terrion, what did you learn by being sat those 4 games at the beginning of the season?”
He replied, “OH, when I got benched?” Me “Yeah”
He Replied, “Oh…perseverance. I had to take it all in, just like the draft here in Detroit. They asked if I wanted to sit with Roger Goodell. I said No, I want to be with my people in the green room. A lot of stuff happens in the draft. Now I’m focused on bringing a Super Bowl here in Detroit!”
I love his swagger and moxy! I hope he backs up everything he says. A homerun pick, and another Alabama guy to the roster. Kool-Aid may be the better name. Arnold is the better fit!
