The Golden State Warriors have been without star point guard Steph Curry for nearly four months now since he broke his second metacarpal in his left hand while playing a game against the Phoenix Suns in early October. However, Curry is set to return to the Warriors lineup this Sunday when they take on the Washington Wizards at 8:30 ET. According to head coach Steve Kerr, this was news, “[It] was news to us. It’s not official, nothing is official,” Kerr told reporters Wednesday. “Steph will play when he’s ready. That date has been something that’s for sure on Steph’s mind, that’s when he wants to play, but he’ll play when we all feel like he’s ready to go.
“I think he needs some more scrimmage time. We don’t have much time to do that with all of our games, so we’ll just see how it all plays out.”
Curry, 31, would go on to say, “That’s the plan,” Curry said. “It’s been the plan since the surgery, knowing the timeline with the injury, as severe as it was. So I’m not rushing, but I’m setting a goal that hopefully I can meet first week of March to get back on the floor and join my teammates, and hopefully end the season on a strong note.” Before Curry suffered his hand injury he was averaging 50 percent from the field, 48 percent from behind the arc, and averaging 19.8 points per game. Also, the Warriors are plus 14.8 in 672 minutes with Curry.
