Cox’s Post Career is Full of Fuel and Racing

Most people Know Philadelphia Eagles Defensive Tackle, Super Bowl LII Champion, Fletcher Cox as a menacing force driving Offensive Lineman and Offensive Coordinators crazy up until his recent retirement at the end of last season. Cox has highlighted the importance of his family, including his nieces and nephews, and the motivation they provide. He has also expressed his love for his late brother and the impact he had on his life.

Fletcher grew up watching racing at his local track with his older brother, Shaddrick, in their hometown of Yazoo City, Mississippi. Drag racing especially caught his eye and he quickly made a name for himself both behind the wheel and as a team owner in just about every corner of drag racing. Since his teenage years, Fletcher has been involved with grudge and no-time racing, radial tire classes such as x275, Limited Drag Radial, Pro 275 and Radial Vs The World and most recently slick tire Pro Mod racing with the Mid-West Drag Racing Series, Northeast Outlaw Pro Mod Association, Professional Drag Racers Association and won the National Muscle Car Association Street Outlaw championship in 2018. Cox made impressive PDRA Pro Street Debut at Mid-Atlantic Showdown. Cox is a longtime motorsports enthusiast, officially made his debut in the Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA) Pro Street category this past weekend at the Mid-Atlantic Showdown held at Virginia Motorsports Park.

After years of involvement in the sport, Cox finally had the opportunity to pilot his 1969 nitrous-assisted Camaro, known as Training Day, in PDRA competition. Testing on this past Thursday saw Cox make three solid passes, highlighted by a 4.01-second run heading into qualifying.

In the opening round of qualifying, Cox posted a 4.150-second pass at 186.92 mph, placing him sixth in the initial standings. As track and weather conditions improved, Cox returned for the second session and improved to a 4.106. He made headlines in the final round of qualifying by recording his first-ever three-second pass-a 3.989-second run at 191.09 mph-securing the No. 4 qualifying position.

On race day, Cox delivered an incredible performance. He ran the quickest elapsed time (ET) of the first round with a 4.031 and maintained that momentum into round two, where he defeated former champion Bill Riddle with a 4.046. In the semifinals, Cox faced fellow nitrous competitor Blake Denton in a tight race. Denton narrowly edged out Cox by just 0.007 seconds, despite Cox recording a new personal best of 3.951 at 191.73 mph.

Cox was all smiles after a remarkable debut performance and is already looking ahead. Cox Racing will return to action in just three weeks at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio, for the third stop of the PDRA tour-the American Door Slammer Challenge, taking place May 22-24.
