Devitt homerun powers Bulls to walk-off, run-rule victory
HOUSTON, May 9, 2019 – Senior Lindsey Devitt hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning to close out a walk-off, run-rule victory for USF and a one-hitter for pitcher Georgina Corrick.
After two-and-a-half scoreless innings, USF was the first team in the 2019 American Athletic Conference Championship to get a hit or a run. The Bulls got a pair on with a hit-by-pitch and a walk, and junior AnaMarie Bruni (Schwenksville, Pa.) chopped a ball down the middle for a single to load the bases. Freshman outfielder and all-rookie selection Meghan Sheehan (Forest Hill, Md.) hit an RBI single to score pinch runner Jaycie Michael (Mt. Dora, Fla.).
USF added three more runs in the inning when Riley Gore (West Palm Beach, Fla.) was walked in by Devitt (Jacksonville, Fla.), Bruni scored on a wild pitch, and Sheehan made it home on a sacrifice fly by senior Macy Cook (Uniontown, Ohio).
The Bulls added a pair of runs in the fifth inning with an RBI single from Sheehan that scored Bruni, and Sheehan made it home on a throwing error by the catcher after stealing third.
In the sixth inning, Sheehan hit an infield single and ran home when Devitt hit a two-out, two-run bomb to left center for the walk-off.
