Coral Springs wants state legislation to allow it to stop party houses

A growing number of Coral Springs residents are concerned about party houses and vacation rentals in residential neighborhoods. Families are upset about the loud parties that take place in quiet neighborhoods. But the City is limited in what it can do because state law allows people to rent out their homes on a short term basis.  Coral Springs Commissioners have said they will ask the Florida legislature to allow the  city to put a stop to party houses. According to a statement from the City of Coral Springs, the city is opposed to any additional bills which reduce home rule, including those related to vacation rentals.  These commercial businesses directly impact local neighborhoods and should be regulated through local legislation to address the needs of the community which they are operating. The City of Coral Springs supports HB 6033, which repeals existing preemptions as the regulation of vacation rentals. The City opposes SB 512/HB 325 which seeks to maintain existing preemptions.

Also, Coral Springs encourages the Legislature to allow for greater local control and oversight of recovery residences. The City supports legislation that would mandate certification of recovery residences. The City supports legislation implementing recommendations by the Sober Homes Task Force regarding fire-safety codes and night/day community treatment facilities.

The City of Coral Springs supports legislation restoring municipal authority to regulate medical marijuana facilities within municipal boundaries.

The City maintains the importance of preserving local Home Rule authority and tax revenues in order to provide for the needs of residents, businesses and visitors.
