The City of Coral Springs announced the selection of Monica Ospina to serve as the city’s first Sustainability Manager. An important goal is to form and propose the Sustainability Action Plan, Monica is responsible for the development of the plan and leading the Office of Sustainability.
Ospina joins the city with extensive knowledge and experience that will enhance sustainability efforts throughout Coral Springs. She has been recognized for her strategies and planning by experts in the field.
Assistant City Manager Catherine Givens, who leads Budget, Strategy and Sustainability, said, “We are committed to ensuring the city remains on track with its strategic priorities, one of which is the creation of an Office of Sustainability. To meet that priority, it was paramount to not only hire the best and brightest in the field but to also identify someone who is committed to the city’s vision and core values to engage with our community. We found that in Monica and we are excited to have her lead the city’s sustainability efforts.”
Before coming to Coral Springs, Ospina worked for Broward County’s Air Program as the Environmental Planning and Outreach Coordinator in charge of leading team outreach initiatives. She focused on community engagement, communications, social media strategies, government operations greenhouse gas emissions inventories, spatial analysis, review of land use amendments, and data analysis.
Ospina was the first to receive a National Association of Counties (NACo) Achievement Award for her work in the Environmental Engineering and Permitting Division of Broward County. Ospina is part of the Women in GIS group and in addition to NACo recognition, she received the Award of Honor from the American Society of Landscape Architects.
