Coral Springs Drive Mobility Project and Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Band is a top level program

The Coral Springs Drive Mobility Project is moving along well.

Project improvements consist of widening the roadway along Coral Ridge Drive from Southgate Boulevard to Wyndham Circle to accommodate 6-foot buffered bicycle lanes in each direction. Improvements also include upgrading vehicle and pedestrian signalization at West Atlantic Boulevard, Royal Palm Boulevard and Wiles Road. Other improvements include repairing the bridge deck joints on the bridge over the C-14 Canal (Bridge No. 864098) along Coral Ridge Drive, reconstructing sidewalk ramps, modifying and relocating drainage structures, milling, resurfacing and adding pavement markings, according to Community Outreach Specialist Rebecca Guerrero. The cost is $7.6 million and it will be complete in late 2022.

The Marjory Stoneman Douglas Marching Band is one of the most successful high school marching bands in Florida and maybe the United States. The Eagle Regiment includes 159 top notch musicians who love to practice and perform music. They consider the band an extended and loving family and they have earned many accolades together and are poised to earn even more.The Eagle Regiment earned a state championship last year. This November, they will travel to Indianapolis to participate in the Bands of America a very prestigious national competition including some of the best high school bands in the nation. On New Year’s Day, 2023, the Eagle Regiment will travel to London to participate in the New Year’s Day parade. They will perform a various local competitions in November and the Coral Springs Holiday Parade. They perform at all home football games.Band director Steven Rivero is very proud of the students in the band. “The band members practice during the work and work hard to learn their music and marching,” he said. “This band is very successful.”Isabella Licari, the band captain and a clarinet player loves being a leader in the Eagle Regiment. “I have a lot of great memories of being in the band. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to be in the band. We spend a lot of time practicing together,” she said. “We are a big family.”Alysa Dewerff, captain of the color guard has also loved being in the band. “I have a lot of great memories from being in band. I enjoy finals last year. We work hard and we have good times together,” she said.Yanira Govan, is president of the band parents. She and other parents work to help set up show and raise support for the band.Being in a high school band like the Eagle Regiment takes tremendous dedication and hard work. But the members love being a part of the band and most consider it a large and extended family. They love to practice together and perform at games and in competitions. There is good camaraderie in high school band.
