Coral Springs Charter wins regional playoff game

The Coral Springs Charter softball team is going to the state finals. The Panthers defeated Somerset Academy Silver Palms 2-1 in a very close and hard fought game. Somerset scored a run in the fourth inning. Charter scored in sixth inning. Then Brianna Godfrey one of the best softball players in Florida got the game winning hit and drove in Julia Estroff. It was her last time at bat in a home game. She has played for Charter for seven years.

Godfrey, who will play for Marshall next year was also the winning pitcher.

Coach Mark Montimurro praised Somerset for playing well and was proud of his team’s accomplishments. He said the team will have to hit well to win at the state finals.

Both teams play well and the game was very competitive.

Briana Godfrey said, “It was exciting to win. We need to hit well to win the state championship,” she said.

The Panthers will play Hernando in the opening game of the state finals on Wednesday at noon. The Panthers have a 23-3 record. If they win two more games, they will have a state championship.
